# El Car Wash: Membership Rules, Cancelling, Refunds and Owner

> El Car Wash's terms: cancel 2 days before billing, one wash a day, one plate change per 6 months, 60 days to claim a refund, and no published damage policy.

## The short version

- El Car Wash is an express tunnel chain “proudly founded in Miami” and based in Doral, Florida. Its regions page lists Florida 85, Michigan 8, Maryland 6 and Illinois 4: 103 stores in four states by our sum. El’s own 2022 release says Warburg Pincus bought it.
- The Terms of Use say you must cancel “AT LEAST TWO (2) DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR NEXT BILLING DATE,” at a store, online, by phone or by email. Keep proof: the Refund Policy refunds a charge only if you can show you cancelled first.
- Every plan includes “one wash per day.” A membership is “valid for one vehicle only,” with one plate change allowed per 6-month period.
- The refund rules exist in three versions: none for unused periods (FAQ), 60 days for an unused membership (Refund Policy, January 2026) and up to 180 days (two 2024 blog posts).
- No El page we read sets out a damage or claims policy or a list of vehicles the tunnel refuses. The online Terms are “excerpts”; the “liability limitations” are available only on request or at a store.
- Prices vary by store, and El’s privacy policy says its website uses “The region or state we infer from your IP address” to show them. That is why this page prints none.

El Car Wash runs drive-through tunnel washes and sells monthly unlimited memberships in four plans: Basic, Better, Ceramic and Graphene. Before joining you will want to know what each plan includes, how billing and cancelling work, when you can get money back and what happens if the tunnel damages your car. On 26 October 2026 we read El’s Terms of Use, Refund Policy, FAQ, privacy policy and membership pages, its plans, services, full-service, regions and locations pages, three store pages, four items from its press page, the welcome pages it posted for members of washes it bought, and seven blog posts. El’s Terms forbid links to “any portion of the Site,” so we name its documents without linking them. As with our pages on [Quick Quack](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/quick-quack-car-wash/) and [GO Car Wash](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/go-car-wash/), this site has no commercial relationship with the company or its owners.

Nine situations a member meets, each with what El Car Wash's Terms of Use excerpt, Refund Policy, FAQ, full-service, fleet and welcome pages say, as read on 26 October 2026.

## Who owns El Car Wash

The company is El Car Wash, LLC, according to a company profile on El’s press page dated Dec 10, 2020, which gives a headquarters address in Doral, Florida, and the line “FOUNDED: 08/10/2009.” We could not check that date against Florida’s corporate registry, whose records sit behind a name search that our rules do not let us use.

The ownership record we could read is El’s own. Its release of Aug 04, 2022 says “Warburg Pincus has acquired the company from affiliates of Wafra Inc. (‘Wafra’), Audrose Partners, and Fireside Investments,” and “Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.” El then “currently operates 17 car wash locations with over 30 additional sites in development across Florida.” Its two leaders, Geoff Karas and Justin Landau, were each “Co-CEO of El Car Wash and Co-Founder of Audrose Partners.” By 2026 Karas signs El’s releases as “CEO and Co-Founder of El Car Wash.”

Is Warburg Pincus still the owner? No El document we read says otherwise or announces a later sale, but El’s 2026 releases name no investor at all. Warburg Pincus’s website answered our attempts to read its legal pages with a bot check, which we did not get around, and the SEC’s full-text search service refused even our request for its robots.txt file. So the accurate statement is narrow: El said in 2022 that Warburg Pincus bought it, and nothing we read since says that changed. For a member, the contract matters more: the Terms of Use say “we” means El Car Wash “and its affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, representatives, successors and assigns.”

## How many locations, and in which states

El’s pages give at least five store counts on the same day. The regions page, read on 26 October 2026, is the one that breaks the number down:

**El Car Wash locations by state and Florida area, as listed on its regions page (read 26 October 2026; total is our arithmetic)**

| State or Florida area | Locations listed |
| --- | --- |
| Florida (all areas) | 85 |
| Miami-Dade County | 24 |
| Central Florida | 21 |
| Palm Beach County | 16 |
| Broward County | 13 |
| Southwest Florida | 6 |
| Brevard County | 5 |
| Michigan | 8 |
| Maryland | 6 |
| Illinois | 4 |
| **Total, four states** | **103** |

Florida holds 82.5% of that total, by our arithmetic, so calling El a Florida chain still fits its roots and most of its stores. But it has spread: the Michigan stores are around Detroit, where the October release counts “8 operating locations in Metro Detroit and an additional 10 openings planned in the next year”; Maryland came with Canton Car Wash in May 2026, and Illinois with Sparkle Express in October 2026. Other pages count differently:

**Stores and members El Car Wash claims, page by page (all read 26 October 2026)**

| Document | Locations | Members |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Warburg Pincus release, Aug 04, 2022 | 17 operating, over 30 in development | Not stated |
| Canton release, May 28, 2026 | “over 100” | “over half a million” |
| Location No. 100 article, July 24, 2026 (press index) | 100th store | “500,000 active members” |
| Sparkle Express release, Oct. 15, 2026 | 110 | “nearly 600,000” |
| About Us page (undated) | 81+ | 403K+ |
| Locations page (undated) | 98, “and 70 more on the way” | Not stated |
| Canton and Sparkle welcome pages (undated) | 100+ and 110+ | 550k+ and 600k+ |
| Home page (undated) | Not stated | 500,000; “500K+” in its title |

The About Us figures look older than the releases, and the locations page’s 98 matches the 98 store addresses in El’s sitemap. That still leaves a gap of 5 between the locations and regions pages on the same day (our arithmetic), which no El page explains. Either way El has grown fast: by its own figures it added 93 locations between August 2022 and October 2026, much of it by buying other chains. Hours and plans vary by store, so check your store’s own page.

## The four plans: what each includes, and why we print no prices

Section 7 of the Terms of Use names four “Monthly Membership” levels. Graphene “Includes washes with Graphene X & Ceramic Coating, Platinum Hot Wax & Lava, Rain Guard, Wheel Cleaner, Tire Shine, Polymer coating, and Buff & Dry at any location.” Ceramic has the same list with “Ceramic Coating” in place of the Graphene X line; Better drops the ceramic and graphene coatings; Basic “Includes basic washes, along with access to vacuums, window cleaner, air fresheners, dash wipes, and towels.” The plan cards on El’s plans, home and store pages describe the same plans as ticks against eight treatments:

**What each El Car Wash plan card marks as included (plans page, read 26 October 2026; counts are our arithmetic)**

| Treatment (El’s name) | Basic | Better | Ceramic | Graphene |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Wash | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Buff & Dry | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Platinum Hot Wax | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Rain Guard | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Tire Shine | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Wheel Cleaner | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Ceramic Mirror | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Graphene Protection | No | No | No | Yes |
| **Included, of 8** | **2** | **6** | **7** | **8** |

The two versions mostly agree, with small gaps: the Terms list a “Polymer coating” that no card shows, and the cards give Basic a Buff & Dry the Terms do not name. The services page says Graphene Protection “Repels dirt, delivers lasting shine, and offers even better protection with repeated washes” and Ceramic Mirror “Creates a smooth layer that helps grime slide right off.” No page says how long either lasts, so treat the names as El’s ranking of its own menu, not as a substitute for a coating applied by hand in a detail shop.

Not every store sells this menu. The Haven St store in Baltimore, a former Canton Car Wash, showed three different plans on 26 October 2026: Clean (Foam Bath, Wheel Cleaner, Blow Dry), Shine (adding Fusion Wax, Turbo Rinse and Tire Shine) and Protect (adding Ceramic, Graphene and Rain Guard). Every plan comes with El’s free extras: vacuums, microfiber towels, automatic mat cleaners, scrub sinks, an air blaster, air freshener, dash wipes and glass and interior cleaners. Express washes clean the outside; the inside is yours to do with those tools, unless you pay for full service.

Why no prices here? El’s privacy policy says the website uses “The region or state we infer from your IP address, used to show accurate pricing and nearby locations.” On 26 October 2026 the Pompano Beach, Florida and Brighton, Michigan store pages showed different monthly prices for the same Basic plan, and the Maryland page a different menu. Any one set printed here would mislead most readers, and every card adds “Prices subject to change without notice. Applicable taxes calculated at checkout.” Open your own store’s page; at least one store, Dr. Phillips, says “online sign up is unavailable at this time.”

## How a visit works: the tunnel, the member lane and full service

The home page sums up an express visit: “Three minutes in the tunnel will leave your car looking its best. Take some time in the lot for a full indoor clean.” It also says “Every location offers no-contact express wash.” No page we read describes the tunnel equipment beyond that, so if it matters to you what touches the paint, ask the store what “no-contact” covers.

Members get their own entrance. A 2023 blog post says “Unlimited Members go through the fast VIP auto wash lane,” and the welcome pages promise a “Dedicated lane With automatic entry.” How the lane recognizes a car is not explained. The FAQ mentions a “tag” and lets members reach the portal with “their email address, license plate or phone number,” and the privacy policy says an account holds your “license plate number.”

Full service is a separate product at a few stores: the team cleans the inside while the tunnel does the outside, including an “Undercarriage rinse.” It takes “Usually 15 to 20 minutes depending on how busy we are. Express takes about 3 minutes.” You “hand off the keys and wait in our lounge area.” And “Full service is priced separately from express memberships.” The page says it is offered “At four locations across South Florida and Central Florida” but lists six: Boynton Beach, Hypoluxo, New Haven in Melbourne and Wellington in Florida, plus Columbia and Haven St in Maryland. Since the express plan cards list no underbody rinse, drivers on salted winter roads should ask whether their store cleans underneath; our [rust prevention routine](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-to-protect-your-car-from-rust/#prevention) explains why it matters.

El publishes no list of vehicles it refuses, only cautions. Its Tesla post asks owners to “follow your Tesla or other EV manufacturers’ guidelines before beginning a car wash with us” and to use “ENABLE FREE ROLL” when asked for neutral. Its EV post names add-ons to check first: “trunk lids, bumper covers, spoilers, lift kits, antennas, diffusers, etc.” Its convertible post warns that a soft top is “more susceptible to damages when using an automatic drive thru car wash.”

## Membership rules: one wash a day, one car, one plate change

You can join online, in the app, or through a team member at a store “prior to the first wash included with your Membership Plan.” Section 7 then sets the deal in capitals: El may “CHARGE YOU ON A RECURRING BASIS FOR YOUR SUBSCRIPTION,” and the subscription “IS CONTINUOUS UNTIL YOU CANCEL IT OR IT IS OTHERWISE TERMINATED.” The cancellation clause refers to being charged “FOR THE NEXT MONTH,” so billing is monthly. The rules for daily use come from the FAQ:

- **One wash a day.** “All Unlimited Memberships include one wash per day. Wash frequency may vary slightly by location.”
- **One car.** “Memberships are valid for one vehicle only.”
- **Changing cars.** With a new car, “you can transfer your current membership” at a store or by email, but “Only one plate change is allowed per 6-month period”: at most 2 a year, by our arithmetic. Frequent car swappers will hit this.
- **Card changes.** “Changes take effect immediately and apply to your next billing cycle.”
- **Rejoining.** You can reactivate at a store or by phone, but “Pricing and availability may vary.”

Two things members look for are missing. No page we read prints a family or multi-car plan; the Manage Membership page lists “Add or remove vehicles” among the changes its team makes. And no written rule says when an upgrade or downgrade takes effect, though the team can “Switch between Basic, Better, Ceramic, and Graphene.” Ask before you switch. Businesses with “10 or more vehicles” can ask for a fleet plan, with a proposal promised “within 48 hours.”

Joining also means accepting text messages “from El Car Wash and its marketing partners.” The privacy policy (Last Updated August 2025) covers the website only: it says “Information collected at our physical locations or through the membership programme is not described here.” So no published policy governs your plate number and wash history at the store.

**Figure: Annotated photograph**

Three numbered callouts over the photograph mark the front where the plate sits, the side of the body and the windshield, each with one fact from El Car Wash’s FAQ, Terms of Use and full-service page.

El Car Wash’s FAQ, Terms of Use and full-service page, read on 26 October 2026: Members can reach their account by plate; one plate change is allowed per 6-month period (callout 1); El publishes no damage or claims policy; ask for the full terms before you join (callout 2); Staff interior cleaning is full service, priced apart from express memberships (callout 3). The photograph is illustrative.

## How to cancel an El Car Wash membership

The binding version is section 7 of the Terms of Use: “YOU MAY CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP PLAN SUBSCRIPTION AT ANY TIME BY” four routes. You can visit a store and ask an associate; use the website (“CLICKING ON THE ‘MEMBERSHIPS’ TAB, SELECTING ‘MANAGE MEMBERSHIP’ AND FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS”); call the toll-free line; or email customer support. Then the deadline: “YOU MUST CANCEL YOUR WASH PACKAGE SUBSCRIPTION AT LEAST TWO (2) DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR NEXT BILLING DATE TO AVOID BEING CHARGED FOR THE NEXT MONTH.” If you renew on the 20th, cancel by the 18th (our arithmetic). The FAQ adds that “Your membership will remain active through the end of your current billing period.”

The friendlier pages do not quite match. The FAQ says you can cancel “through the customer portal at any time,” and an older sign-up page promises “No contracts, auto-renewal, and cancel anytime”; neither mentions the two-day deadline. The Manage Membership page says “While we’re developing our self-service customer portal, we’re here to help you,” offering “Pause or cancel membership” by phone, at a store or by email, with a “Response within 24 hours.” The Help Desk’s “cancellation process” link opens an email to an info@ address. The published Terms say nothing about pausing.

**Cancel early and keep the proof.** El’s Refund Policy accepts three kinds of evidence that you cancelled before a charge: “the confirmation email” for an online cancellation, “the confirmation number provided by an agent” for a call, and “a receipt from the transaction” at a store. Without one, you have no claim to a charge taken after you thought you had cancelled. Give more than two days if you email, since the reply can take 24 hours, and check your next statement.

Federal law sets a floor for memberships sold online: under 15 U.S.C. 8403, a seller using a “negative option feature” must provide “simple mechanisms for a consumer to stop recurring charges.” Whether any route meets that standard is a legal question this site does not answer; the practical point is that El’s own Terms name four routes and you may use any of them.

## Refunds: three versions of the rules

The FAQ is short: “Refunds are not provided for partially used or unused billing periods.” It then points to the Refund Policy (“Last Updated: January 2026”), which says more. A monthly recharge is refunded only if you cancelled before the recharge date and can prove it, and “If a wash has been redeemed during a billing cycle, the account is not eligible to be considered for a refund.” For a membership you forgot: “Customers with unused Unlimited Memberships have two months (60 days) from the date of transaction to contact Customer Support and receive a refund. ... Transactions beyond two months (60 days) are not guaranteed for refund eligibility.”

Two blog posts from 2024, still online, say “The maximum refund allowed for unused Unlimited Memberships is six (6) months (180 days),” with anything over two months reviewed by customer service. The January 2024 post adds that “Refunds will ONLY be processed via the online Rinsed form for requests made at a location.” The window in the current policy is 120 days shorter, by our arithmetic.

**El Car Wash’s refund rules for unlimited memberships, by document (all read 26 October 2026)**

| Document | What it says | Time limit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| FAQ (undated) | No refunds for “partially used or unused billing periods” | None stated |
| Refund Policy, January 2026 | A recharge is refunded with proof of cancelling before it and no wash used that cycle | 60 days for an unused membership; later “not guaranteed” |
| Blog posts, January 17 and August 8, 2024 | Unused memberships reported within 60 days; longer claims reviewed | Up to 180 days |

Plan around the strictest reading: one wash in a billing cycle ends any refund for it, and a forgotten membership should be reported within 60 days of the charge. Single washes are simpler: “El Car Wash does not refund single wash services unless the service was not provided. If you are unsatisfied with your wash, you can request a rewash before leaving the site.”

## If the wash damages your car, and the terms you cannot read

We found no El page that sets out a damage or claims policy: no form, no reporting deadline, no excluded parts, no size limits. The Terms page explains part of the silence. It ends: “This page contains excerpts from our complete Terms of Use. For the full terms and conditions, including all sections on arbitration, liability limitations, and other important provisions, please contact us or visit our location.” It shows 7 numbered sections (1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 18 and 26), so 19 of a document numbered to 26 are not published there, by our arithmetic. The one published warranty disclaimer, section 4, covers “THE SITE AND ALL MATERIALS ON THE SITE,” meaning the website, not the wash.

The missing sections include the dispute rules. The Terms open by warning that they “CONTAIN AN ARBITRATION AGREEMENT, A WAIVER OF CLASS ACTION RIGHTS, AND OTHER LIMITATIONS THAT AFFECT YOUR RIGHTS,” and that “IN ARBITRATION, THERE IS NO JUDGE OR JURY.” But the agreement itself is not shown, so a member cannot see whether there is an opt-out, where a case would be heard or whether small claims court stays open. Section 1 adds that El “may make changes in the services described on the Site or in these Terms at any time without any other prior notice to you” and that changes update a “Last Updated” date at the top of the Terms, which the page as we read it does not show.

El’s blog is confident about safety: its May 2025 post says soft-touch and touchless systems “are designed to be safe for your vehicle when properly maintained and operated.” That is a view, not a promise to pay. The only guarantee in El’s current policies is the rewash “before leaving the site”; a 2020 company profile mentions “a satisfaction guarantee” that no current page defines. So the protective steps are yours:

- **Get the full terms first.** Ask the store for the complete Terms of Use and any damage policy in writing, and keep them with your receipt.
- **Point out weak spots.** Show the attendant loose trim, add-ons, a soft top or a cracked mirror housing before the tunnel.
- **Report on the spot.** Tell the store before you drive away, photograph the damage with the time showing and ask for a written report.
- **Know your other cover.** Your auto policy’s comprehensive or collision cover may apply, subject to the deductible.

For dents, our [Dent Wizard page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/dent-wizard/) covers what paintless repair can fix; for glass, see [windshield replacement cost](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/windshield-replacement-cost/). Other chains publish their own damage terms, which we read on our pages about [Club Car Wash](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/club-car-wash/) and [Flagship Carwash](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/flagship-carwash/).

## If your local wash became an El Car Wash

Much of El’s growth comes from buying other chains, so many members never chose El; their wash changed its name. El’s press page lists these purchases since April 2025:

**Washes El Car Wash says it bought since April 2025 (El press page and releases, read 26 October 2026)**

| Date (as El prints it) | Seller | Where | Sites, in El’s words |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Apr 29, 2025 | Wash City | Orlando, Florida | “five Wash City car washes” |
| Jun 03, 2025 | Johnny Clean Car Wash | Florida | “adding five new stores” |
| Feb 25, 2026 | Miracle Car Wash | Boca Raton, Florida | “the company’s first location in Boca Raton” |
| Mar 12, 2026 | Luv-A-Wash | Pine Ridge, Southwest Florida | No count in the summary |
| Mar 26, 2026 | Splash Express Car Wash | Central Florida | “three Splash Express Car Wash locations and an ongoing joint venture with the founders” |
| May 28, 2026 | Canton Car Wash | Baltimore, Maryland | “six operating locations” |
| Oct. 15, 2026 | Sparkle Express Car Wash | Chicago area, Illinois | “four Sparkle Express Car Wash locations” |

That is at least 24 sites from seven sellers, by our arithmetic, and other pages mention more: El’s Johnny Clean page refers to an earlier “acquisition of both Zips’ Orlando area stores and Wash City” (our [Zips Car Wash page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/zips-car-wash/) covers the seller), and El keeps welcome pages for Spin Car Wash and Ultimate Car Wash members. What happened to existing memberships differs by deal:

- **Canton and Sparkle Express** members are promised “the same price you already pay.” Each store closes for upgrades “for a few days. We’re reaching out to members directly before it happens.” The Sparkle page adds: “Keep washing as you always have, nothing changes until yours switches over.”
- **Spin Car Wash** members in Broward County were told “Your account has been put on pause,” and that “To keep accounts active during this period, a recurring charge of $0.01 will be applied monthly.”
- **Wash City** members were told El would notify them “VIA TEXT ON SPECIAL EVENTS AND OPENING DATES.”
- **Johnny Clean** stores “will be rebranded and enhanced with El Car Wash’s signature offerings.”

None of these pages says whether a former member must accept El’s Terms of Use, or when the old chain’s cancellation and refund rules stop applying. If your wash changed hands, check which plan and price El now shows for your account, ask in writing which terms you are under, and if you want out, cancel by one of the four routes in El’s Terms and keep the proof.

## Where El’s own documents disagree

Read side by side, El’s pages contradict each other in at least 14 places. On money and your rights, the Terms of Use and the Refund Policy are the documents El would point to, so plan around them where they are stricter.

**El Car Wash’s documents compared (all read 26 October 2026)**

| Topic | One page says | Another says |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cancelling | FAQ: in the portal “at any time” | Terms: at least two days before the billing date; Manage Membership: the portal is still being developed |
| Refunds | FAQ: none for unused periods | Refund Policy: 60 days; 2024 posts: up to 180 days |
| Members | About Us: 403K+ | Home page: 500,000; welcome pages: 550k+ and 600k+ |
| Locations | About Us: 81+; Locations page: 98 | Regions page: 103 by our sum; Sparkle release: 110 |
| Full service | “At four locations across South Florida and Central Florida” | The same page lists six, two in Maryland |
| Plan contents | Terms: “Polymer coating”; Basic is “basic washes” | Plan cards: no polymer coating; Basic includes Buff & Dry |
| Early history | 2022 release: “4 locations in 2019” | Location No. 100 article: “four locations it operated in 2018” |
| Terms date | Section 1: a “Last Updated” date sits at the top | None is shown |
| States served | Company profile: “Florida and Michigan” | Regions page: four states |
| Palm Beach | Regions heading: 16 | Regions text: “15 current car wash locations in Palm Beach County” |
| Sparkle release date | Dateline: Oct. 15, 2026 | Press index: Oct 21, 2026 |

Three more are pages left behind as El grew. The Sparkle Express welcome page still carries the Canton page’s title, “Canton Car Wash is Now El Car Wash.” An older sign-up page promises “8 sites across Miami” above the line “This checkout form is no longer active.” And the 2020 profile’s “satisfaction guarantee” appears on no current page. The cancelling and refund rows matter most, because there the friendly pages and the binding ones point different ways.

## Before you join: a checklist

- **Check your store’s own page.** Plans, prices and hours vary by store.
- **Ask for the full terms.** The online Terms are excerpts; ask for the complete version and any damage policy in writing.
- **Ask what “no-contact” means.** It matters for a soft top, a wrap or aftermarket parts.
- **Photograph the car first.** Every panel, before the first wash, and point out loose trim to the attendant.
- **Mark your billing date.** Set a reminder more than two days before it.
- **Keep proof of every change.** Confirmation emails, agent confirmation numbers and store receipts are what the Refund Policy asks for.
- **Mind the plate rule.** One plate change per 6-month period.
- **Bought a used car?** Ask the seller to remove it from any El account and file the bill of sale with your [ownership records](https://baronauto1.com/buying-guides/what-to-do-after-buying-a-used-car/#records). If it has add-ons or a repaint, see our guides to [inspecting a modified used car](https://baronauto1.com/buying-guides/buying-a-modified-used-car/#inspect) and [why a repaint may not match the factory code](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/vin-paint-code/#variants).

None of this makes a tunnel membership a poor choice for someone who washes often. The point is to know which rules sit in documents you can read and which do not. For how other chains handle the same questions, see our pages on [GO Car Wash](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/go-car-wash/), [Quick Quack](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/quick-quack-car-wash/) and [Cobblestone](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/cobblestone-car-wash/).

## Common questions

### Who owns El Car Wash?
