# Express Oil Change: What’s Included, Warranty and Owner

> Express Oil Change prints no price online. What an oil change includes, the 3-month or 3,000-mile warranty, tire road hazard terms and who owns it.

## The short version

- Express Oil prints no oil-change price outside coupons that expire. The fine print says the price covers up to 5 quarts, a standard filter and a free 20-point inspection; extra quarts, a premium filter, tax and a disposal fee “if applicable” cost more.
- The Service Warranty covers an oil change for three months or 3,000 miles on parts and labor, and brakes, transmission service and most other repairs for twelve months or 12,000 miles. Let Express check a problem before anyone else repairs it, or the warranty is void.
- The Tire Protection Plan covers road hazards for 4 years or until 2/32 inch of tread, whichever occurs first, with free replacement in the first 25% of treadwear. Its price and the cost of a later claim are not printed.
- Standing discounts: $5 off oil changes on Tuesdays (Ladies Day), and $5 off oil changes plus 10% off mechanical work for active and retired military.
- Mavis has owned Express Oil since a 2018 merger; its release filed with the SEC on 20 August 2026 says Mavis “owns and operates” the brand. Shops are franchised or corporate, but no document we reached gives the split, and store pages do not say which.
- Express Oil’s store list had 455 locations in 21 states on 9 October 2026; its own pages also say “over 200 Stores,” “400+ locations” and “19 states.”

An Express Oil Change is a stay-in-your-car oil change at Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers, an Alabama chain founded in 1979 and part of Mavis since 2018. The company says it takes 10 minutes, and the work carries a written warranty of three months or 3,000 miles. On 9 October 2026 we read Express Oil’s own pages (the [Service Warranty](https://www.expressoil.com/service-warranty/), the [Tire Protection Plan](https://www.expressoil.com/tire-protection-plan-warranty/), the oil change, coupon, military, card, contact and real estate pages, its Terms of Use and Privacy Policy), Golden Gate Capital’s 2017 and 2018 releases, Mavis’s August 2026 release on EDGAR and two federal appeals opinions. Express Oil’s terms bar scripted crawling, so we read each page once by hand and quote short passages. This site has no commercial relationship with Express Oil, Mavis or any oil or tire brand. (Valvoline’s Express Care shops are a different network, covered on our [Valvoline oil change](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/valvoline-oil-change/#who-runs) page.)

**Figure: What Express Oil’s own pages say, by situation**

A two-column table of nine situations at Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers: up to 5 quarts are included and extra quarts cost more; a standard filter is included and a premium one is extra; the oil change is warranted for three months or 3,000 miles on parts and labor if Express checks the problem first; the original location must approve warranty work done elsewhere; parts brought in by the customer carry no warranty; the Tire Protection Plan covers road hazards for 4 years or to 2/32 inch with free replacement in the first 25% of treadwear; military customers get $5 off oil changes and 10% off mechanical work and Tuesdays bring $5 off for Ladies Day; stores are franchised or corporate with no label saying which, under Mavis ownership; and the website terms require individual arbitration with a 30-day opt-out.

Read from Express Oil’s service warranty, tire protection, coupon, military, contact, real estate and terms pages and Mavis’s August 2026 release on 9 October 2026.

## What an Express Oil oil change includes

The oil change page says “Our signature 10-minute oil change keeps your vehicle running smoothly while saving you time”: no appointment, you stay in the car, and technicians “perform a complimentary 20-point courtesy inspection.” The contact page credits the speed to “specially-designed bays with pits underneath which allow multiple technicians to service your vehicle at once.”

What the price covers is clearest in the fine print under every oil-change coupon: it “Includes up to 5 quarts of conventional oil (diesel/european quarts may vary; see stores for details), standard filter (prem. extra), and a free 20-point inspection,” “plus tax and disposal fee, if applicable. Additional qts extra.” The high-mileage and synthetic coupons repeat it with their own oil. Coupon amounts change monthly; this description of the package is the standing part.

The oil change page lists the 20 points. Three are done only “Upon request,” leaving 17 by default, by our count:

**The “complimentary (FREE) 20-point courtesy inspection” as Express Oil’s oil change page lists it (read 9 October 2026)**

| Group | Items as printed | Done |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Fluids | Brake fluid, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, coolant reservoir, clutch fluid, transmission fluid | Checked |
| Under the hood | Battery, belts, hoses, cabin air filter, engine air filter | Checked |
| Outside | Wiper blades, lights, horn; “Visually Check Tire Wear” | Checked |
| Service | “Lubricate Chassis”; “Reset Oil Monitor/Light” | Done |
| Driveline | Rear differential, front differential, transfer case | “Upon request” |

Two things are missing. There is no tire-pressure item, only a visual check of wear. And every fluid line says “Check,” not fill. A store page we opened describes the visit differently: “We’ll change your oil, replace the filter, top off your washer fluid, and complete a free multi-point courtesy inspection.” Washer fluid is the one top-off any Express page promises; ask for anything else.

The contact FAQ says the shops work on “all makes and models – whether you drive a Ford or Ferrari,” while the coupon fine print warns that “diesel/european quarts may vary.” The rotation page suggests a rotation “every other oil change”: every 6,000 miles at a 3,000-mile oil change, by our arithmetic, inside its own “every 5,000-7,000 miles.” Our [tire rotation cost](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-rotation-cost/) page covers what that involves.

## What costs extra, and why there is no price online

Express Oil publishes no oil-change price. The oil change page says the cost “varies based on the type of oil (conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic, diesel) as well as the amount of oil your vehicle requires” and suggests calling the store for a quote. The only dollar figures we found sit inside coupons with an end-of-month expiry, including a landing page that prints “reg.” prices; those are promotions, so we do not repeat them. The fine print does say what raises the bill:

- **Extra oil.** “Additional qts extra,” with no price per quart. Your owner’s manual gives the capacity with a filter change.
- **The filter.** A “standard filter” is included; “prem. extra.” No page says what makes one premium.
- **Synthetic oil.** The contact FAQ explains a synthetic charge on an invoice: some vehicles “require synthetic oil , which is a different cost than conventional oil .”
- **Tax and a disposal fee**, “if applicable,” with no amount printed.
- **Your own oil.** Coupons are “Not valid with ... customer-supplied oil,” and “No warranty is available for used parts or parts brought in by the customer.”

**Get the total before the technician starts.** The base package stops at 5 quarts and a standard filter, and the disposal fee and tax come on top. Ask for the out-the-door figure for your engine: oil type, quarts, filter, fee and any discount.

A home-page badge promises a “Low Price Guarantee,” but no page we read states its terms. Ask what it covers before you rely on it.

## Which oil goes in, and the 3,000-mile advice

Express Oil names Valvoline, but not consistently. The synthetic page says “we use premium Valvoline synthetic oils for every oil change,” and the synthetic-versus-conventional page “only premium Valvoline products.” Lower on the synthetic page it becomes “for most oil change services,” with other brands “upon request,” and the oil change page says “we’ll often use top-quality oil.” The invoice is what tells you which oil went in.

The interval advice also splits. The oil change page says changing oil “every 3,000 miles is the best way to protect your car,” cites an unnamed, undated ASE survey in which “90% of mechanics” called it “the single most important service a driver can do,” and adds: “Regardless of your vehicle’s age or oil type, keeping this schedule is essential.” Both synthetic pages instead recommend “every 3,000 to 5,000 miles,” and one says synthetic “Requires fewer oil changes.”

Neither is your car’s schedule. The synthetic page itself defers to “manufacturer guidelines,” and your manual may set a longer interval or tell you to follow an oil-life monitor. If it allows more than 3,000 miles, following Express’s page means paying for oil changes the carmaker does not ask for. Our page on [how often to change oil](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-often-to-change-oil/) explains what sets the interval, including [severe service](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-often-to-change-oil/#severe) and [synthetic oil](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-often-to-change-oil/#synthetic). Express’s other pages suggest a cabin filter “every 12,000-15,000 miles (or once a year),” an engine air filter “every 30,000 miles” and wipers “every 6-12 months,” with no prices; check each against the manual.

## The Service Warranty: three months or 3,000 miles on an oil change

Unlike some quick-lube chains, Express Oil publishes a written warranty on its own work, “on parts and labor”:

**Express Oil’s Service Warranty, by service, as printed on expressoil.com (read 9 October 2026)**

| Service | Warranty as printed | Conditions on the same line |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Oil changes | Three months or 3,000 miles on parts and labor | None |
| Tire rotation and balance | Six months or 6,000 miles on parts and labor | None |
| Transmission service | Twelve months or 12,000 miles on parts and labor | None |
| Brake service | Twelve months or 12,000 miles on parts and labor | Commercial and off-road vehicles excluded; after “extraordinary wear,” “future warranty may not be offered” |
| Air conditioner service | “Limited warranty” | “Ask service manager for details” |
| All other mechanical services | Twelve months or 12,000 miles on parts and labor | “includes labor and installed parts only” |

Within the period, Express says it “will – at no charge – perform all labor and replace all parts found defective from the original service.” No line says “whichever comes first,” so the page does not say whether cover ends at the earlier or the later limit; if you are past one and not the other, ask before you assume you are covered. The notes underneath decide most claims:

- **Let Express look first.** “In the event of a problem after a service, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers must be notified and allowed to check the vehicle before any repairs are made. Any other action shall void any warranties.”
- **Bring the receipt.** You “return your vehicle within your receipt” (printed that way) to any location during business hours, but “The location that originally performed the work must approve warranty service before a different location can proceed.”
- **Exclusions.** Parts “may be excluded from the warranty based on your engine’s mechanical condition,” and you are to be told at the time of service. Nothing covers “a pre-existing condition,” parts you bring in, or work Express did not do.
- **Technician discretion.** “A warranty may be denied or adjusted at the time of service at the behest of the technician.” If yours is, ask for it in writing on the invoice.

How the oil-change terms compare, copied from the other chains’ pages this site has read:

**Printed warranty terms on an oil change and on repairs at five chains (each chain’s own pages, read 9 October 2026)**

| Chain | The oil change | Repairs |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Express Oil | Three months or 3,000 miles on parts and labor | Twelve months or 12,000 miles for brakes, transmission service and other mechanical work |
| [Jiffy Lube](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/jiffy-lube-oil-change/#warranty) | 3 months or 3,000 miles of use, whichever comes first | At participating Brakes & Services centers, a minimum of 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first |
| [Meineke](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/meineke/) | A 90-day warranty against installation related leaks | 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first |
| [Take 5](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/take-5-oil-change/#warranty) | No warranty printed on any page read | Not offered on the pages read |
| [Mavis](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#parts-labor-warranty) (same owner) | No oil-change row in its parts table; items not listed get 3 months or 3,000 miles | Part by part: a water pump 12/12,000; brake pads a lifetime part with 12/12,000 labor; alignment 3/3,000 |

Express and Mavis share an owner but not a warranty format. Our [brake pad replacement cost](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/brake-pad-replacement-cost/) page explains what a brake job includes, and [car battery warranties](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/car-battery-warranty/) covers battery terms, which Express’s page does not list.

**Figure: Annotated photograph**

Three numbered callouts over the photograph mark the engine, the oil filter and the mechanic's hands, each with one fact from Express Oil Change’s oil change, coupon and Service Warranty pages.

Express Oil Change’s oil change, coupon and Service Warranty pages, read on 9 October 2026: Up to 5 quarts are in the oil-change price; Express Oil says additional quarts are extra (callout 1); A standard filter is included; the fine print says a premium filter costs extra (callout 2); A leak after the visit? Warranty: 3 months or 3,000 miles; let Express check it first (callout 3). The photograph is illustrative.

## Will an Express Oil change affect your factory warranty?

Express Oil’s scheduled maintenance page says: “No. That’s a common misconception. Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers are authorized to perform scheduled maintenance, and these services will not void your manufacturer’s warranty.” The word “authorized” is Express’s; the rule comes from federal law. The FTC’s guidance on [auto warranties and service contracts](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/auto-warranties-and-auto-service-contracts) says “it’s illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage because you had routine maintenance or repairs done by someone else.”

The same page adds two limits. If the warranty provides the work free, “the dealer or manufacturer can make you use repair facilities it chooses.” And if a shop “doesn’t install a part correctly” and damages a covered part, coverage for that part can be denied, though the manufacturer or dealer “must prove” the cause. The FTC’s advice is to “Keep records of repairs and maintenance like oil changes,” because “Otherwise, your claim might be denied.” Express’s Privacy Policy says it “may exchange information with third parties regarding vehicle details and service history,” without naming them, so keep your own receipt (see our guide to [oil-change records](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-often-to-change-oil/#records), and how claims are tested on our page asking whether an [extended warranty is worth it](https://baronauto1.com/financing/is-an-extended-warranty-worth-it/#how-a-claim-works)).

## Tires: the Tire Protection Plan, road hazards and the Michelin page

The tires page lists “11 feature brands” (Goodyear, Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, Continental, Cooper, Hankook, Yokohama, Bridgestone, Firestone and Falken). Road hazard cover is the Tire Protection Plan, “available at participating locations,” which “covers your tires against road hazard damage for a period of 4 years” or until the tread is worn to 2/32 inch, “whichever occurs first.” A road hazard is a failure from “a puncture, bruise or break incurred under normal driving conditions (nails, glass and potholes are the most common examples).” Bought with new tires, it brings free road hazard replacement “Within 1st 25% of treadwear” and free flat repairs “For damages due to a road hazard.” Claims go to “the store where you purchased your tires.”

Not on the page: the plan’s price, what a replacement costs after the first 25% of treadwear (the free replacement covers only the first quarter of the tread the plan protects), and whether the plan transfers. Ask for the price and the written rule for later claims before you add it. Mavis, the owner, prints different terms for its own [road hazard warranty](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#road-hazard): the shorter of 3 years or 2/32 inch, bought separately, with a replacement charged as “the percentage of wear” times the original price (copied from our Mavis page). Express’s plan runs 1 year longer, by our arithmetic. Our page on [tire manufacturer warranties](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-manufacturer-warranties/) explains proration.

On repairs, Express uses “industry-standard patch-plug methods” and says “Damage on or near the sidewall, large punctures, or multiple overlapping repairs make a tire unsafe to fix.” Its Michelin Promise page reprints Michelin’s own programs (roadside help “For 3 years after you purchase,” towing “up to 150 miles” when no spare is available) and contradicts itself: the heading says “60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee,” the sentence under it “within 30 days.” Check Michelin’s own documents before relying on either.

## Ladies Day, the military discount, coupons and the Express Card

Two standing discounts are printed. **Ladies Day:** “stop by on any Tuesday for Ladies Day and receive $5 off any oil change!” **Military:** Express “extends an extra $5 off oil changes and 10% off mechanical services to all active and retired military personnel,” with a military ID and the coupon. The military terms shift on the same page: a headline of “GET 10% OFF EVERY VISIT TO OUR STORE” and “any Express Oil location,” then an FAQ that says “participating locations” and “This offer excludes tires”; the contact FAQ adds “$50 max value.” A separate, dated military coupon also sat on the coupons page; we do not repeat promotions.

Other savings are coupons with an end-of-month expiry, which can be texted to you after an opt-in (“Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”). Oil-change coupons are “Not valid with same service offers / discounts (including fleet),” so expect one discount per service. Fleets get a separate program; the fleet page says Express serves “more than 7,000 fleet operators” and promises “many permanent discounts” without printing them.

**The Express Card** offers “6 or 12 months special financing on purchases of $199-$749.99 (6 months) or $750+ (12 months),” no annual fee, and prequalification “with no impact on your credit score”; gas purchases “are not eligible for Promotional Financing.” What the page does not show in visible text is what happens if the promotional balance is not paid in time: the asterisk on the financing line leads to a rebate footnote, and the “***” after “Pay no annual fee” leads nowhere. Mavis’s card page, which says its card is “Accepted Across All Mavis Brands” including Express Oil, prints the rule: “If you do not, interest will be charged on the promo balance from the purchase date.” That is deferred interest. Ask whether the Express Card works the same way, and pay the balance off within the promotional months. The card page’s headline offer on 9 October 2026 had a purchase window of 25 August to 14 September 2026, already over.

## Who owns Express Oil Change, and who runs your shop

Express Oil’s About page says Jim Lunceford opened “the first Express Oil Change & Service Center in Vestavia Hills, Alabama” in 1979; the first franchise store opened in 1984; in 1996 “Franchise partners Joe Watson and Ricky Brooks acquire the corporation”; and in 2013, “After acquiring seven Tire Engineers locations,” it took its current name. The owners since then, from their own documents:

- **June 15, 2017.** Golden Gate Capital’s [release](https://goldengatecap.com/golden-gate-capital-acquires-express-oil-change-tire-engineers/) says it “has acquired Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers” from Carousel Capital, then “approximately 300 company-owned and franchise locations across 15 states.”
- **September 2017.** Brakes Plus’s About page says “Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers acquires Brakes Plus” (copied from our [Brakes Plus](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/brakes-plus/) page). Express Oil’s own timeline does not mention it.
- **February 23, 2018.** In a [release](https://goldengatecap.com/mavis-discount-tire-and-express-oil-change-tire-engineers-to-merge/) posted by Golden Gate, Mavis Discount Tire agreed “to merge with Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers,” with the Sorbaro family leading the combined company and Golden Gate and the Sorbaros as “significant shareholders.” Express then had “approximately 400” locations in 19 states, just under half (48.2%) of the combined “more than 830,” by our arithmetic. Mavis’s About page calls the result “Mavis Tire Express Services Corp., known as Mavis.”
- **2021.** A BayPine-led investor group agreed to acquire Mavis, with Golden Gate keeping “a minority interest” (BayPine’s release, copied from our [Mavis](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#who-owns-mavis) page).
- **August 20, 2026.** Mavis’s release on buying Pep Boys, filed as an [SEC exhibit](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/813762/000110465926099264/tm2623713d1_ex99-1.htm) by the seller, says “Mavis owns and operates a portfolio of auto service center brands” including Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers, Brakes Plus, Midas and Pep Boys.

Express Oil’s site puts it differently. Its About page says the company “merges with Mavis Discount Tire” and is “part of a family of brands which includes Brakes Plus , Mavis , Town Fair Tire , and Tuffy,” naming Mavis as a sister brand rather than the owner and leaving out [Midas](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/midas/) and [Pep Boys](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/pep-boys/). The link shows in the small print: every page footer reads “Powered by Mavis Tire at Discount Prices,” the Terms send dispute notices to Millwood, New York, and the privacy contact is a mavis.com email address. The contracting party is “Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers d/b/a Express Oil Change.” Our sibling page on [Town Fair Tire](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/town-fair-tire/) covers another Mavis brand.

**Franchised or corporate?** Both. The real estate page says Express grows “either with a franchise or corporate location,” and the Privacy Policy mentions “franchisees.” A 2023 federal appeals opinion describes the trend: in March 2021 “Express sought to buy out” two franchisees “to convert their franchised stores into corporate-owned ones,” and they “planned to sell 29 stores” to Express. No document we could reach gives today’s split: the Wisconsin and California franchise registries answered with bot checks we did not try to get past, Minnesota’s had no filing, Express’s franchise page returns “Page Not Found,” and the store page we opened does not say who runs it. Nor does the Service Warranty say whether a franchised shop or the company stands behind it. Ask before the work starts if it matters to you.

**Express Oil store and state counts in the documents we read (read 9 October 2026)**

| Where | Date | What it says |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Golden Gate release | June 15, 2017 | “approximately 300 company-owned and franchise locations across 15 states” |
| Merger release | February 23, 2018 | “approximately 400 company-owned and franchise locations in 19 states” |
| About page timeline | For 2021 | “The 300th location launches July 2, 2021” |
| About page | Undated | “locations across 19 states” |
| Oil change and synthetic pages | Undated | “over 200 Stores and Growing” |
| One store page | Undated | “all our 400+ locations” |
| Store list (our count) | 9 October 2026 | 455 entries in 21 states, 14 marked Coming Soon, so 441 not marked; 131 (28.8%) in Alabama |

The store list, which matches the 455 store pages in Express Oil’s sitemap, is the current figure; “19 states” is the 2018 number, and the 2021 “300th location” cannot be squared with 2018’s “approximately 400” on the documents alone.

## Arbitration, appointments and the court record

**The Terms of Use** (last updated May 18, 2026) “require the use of arbitration on an individual basis to resolve disputes,” with a waiver of jury trials and class actions, for claims “arising from or relating in any way to your purchase of products or services through the site or to your relationship with us.” You send a written notice to the company in Millwood, New York; if it is not resolved in 45 days, either side may go to the American Arbitration Association or small claims court, and small claims is open with written notice “within sixty (60) calendar days of your purchase.” You can opt out of arbitration by mail “within thirty (30) calendar days after the date that you agree to these Terms of Use.” New York law governs. Whether website terms reach a car serviced in a shop is not something the Terms settle, and we take no view.

**Appointments.** The contact FAQ says “we do not accept appointments for our signature 10 minute oil change or state inspections,” which are first-come, first-served; appointments are encouraged for mechanical work. For online bookings the Terms allow a booking fee and a deposit, for example on special order tires, refundable if you cancel at least 72 hours ahead and forfeitable if you are more than 10 minutes late.

**The “Tire Engineers” name.** In 2015 Mississippi’s engineering licensing board decided the name violated state law and asked Express to stop using it. Express sued; the district court granted the board summary judgment; and on February 19, 2019 the Fifth Circuit ([No. 18-60144](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCOURTS-ca5-18-60144/pdf/USCOURTS-ca5-18-60144-0.pdf)) held that the board’s decision violated the First Amendment’s commercial speech protections and rendered judgment for Express. The court said the name, “first trademarked in 1948,” refers to mechanics’ skills “not usu[ally] considered to fall within the scope of engineering,” while finding the record “more than sufficient” to show it is “potentially misleading.” Express itself proposed a disclaimer that “Tire Engineers does not employ professionally-licensed engineers or provide engineering services.” The people working on your car are technicians.

**The franchise case** quoted above is the Eleventh Circuit’s opinion of December 6, 2023 ([No. 22-10611](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCOURTS-ca11-22-10611/pdf/USCOURTS-ca11-22-10611-0.pdf)), about a non-compete signed by a manager who had worked for Express franchisees for more than 20 years; the court affirmed in part, vacated in part and sent the case back. It is not a consumer case.

**Regulators.** We found no state attorney-general or FTC action naming Express Oil. Pennsylvania’s Attorney General settled on 28 September 2026 with Mavis Tire Supply, LLC over allegations of unnecessary or unperformed repairs; the release says a settlement “shall not be considered an admission of a violation of the law” (copied from our Mavis page). It names the Mavis subsidiary, not Express Oil, and Express Oil’s store list has no Pennsylvania location.

## Where Express Oil’s own pages disagree

Besides the store counts, the oil brand, the interval, the inspection list and the Michelin page covered above, we found these conflicts:

- **Who owns whom.** Express’s About page calls Mavis a family member; Mavis’s SEC-filed release says Mavis “owns and operates” Express Oil. Express’s timeline skips the 2017 Brakes Plus purchase that Brakes Plus records.
- **Where Mavis is based.** Golden Gate’s portfolio page says “Millwood, NY,” where Express’s Terms send notices; the August 2026 release says “Headquartered in White Plains, New York,” where the Privacy Policy gives its postal contact.
- **Where to claim.** The Service Warranty says return the car “to any” location, then that the original location “must approve” the work.
- **The military discount.** “10% OFF EVERY VISIT” in the headline, $5 off oil changes in the text; “any” location and “participating locations” on one page; a $50 cap only on the contact page.
- **The card page.** Footnote marks that point to the wrong footnote or to none, under a headline offer that had already closed.
- **The Terms.** A drafting placeholder in the published text: “the Testimonial Release [INSERT LINK].”

None of these changes the terms printed on the Service Warranty and Tire Protection Plan pages, but they make a page’s wording a starting point for a question at the counter, not the last word.

## Before and after an Express Oil visit

- **Read the manual first.** Note the oil specification, the capacity with a filter and the interval, so you know whether you need more than 5 quarts, whether synthetic is required, and whether 3,000 miles is what your carmaker asks for.
- **Ask for the total.** Oil type and brand, quarts, standard or premium filter, disposal fee, tax and one discount.
- **Say what you want topped off.** The 20-point list says “Check.” Ask if you want tire pressures set or fluids filled.
- **Weigh each recommendation** against the manual’s schedule before you agree; the service pages print intervals but no prices.
- **Read the invoice.** It should show oil type and viscosity, quantity, filter and odometer reading. That is your warranty record.
- **Check the car afterwards.** The dipstick should read within its marks; watch for drips (see [car fluid leaks](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/car-fluid-leaks/)) and stop if a warning light comes on (see [what the check engine light means](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/what-does-check-engine-light-mean/)).
- **If something is wrong, call Express first,** with the receipt. Another shop’s repair before Express checks the car voids the warranty.
- **Buying tires?** Get the Tire Protection Plan’s price and its written rule for claims after the first 25% of treadwear before you add it.

## Common questions

### How much is an Express Oil Change?

Express Oil publishes no price outside coupons that expire monthly; its pages say the price depends on the type and amount of oil and send you to the store. The base oil change covers up to 5 quarts, a standard filter and a free 20-point inspection, with extra quarts, a premium filter, tax and a disposal fee “if applicable” on top.

### What does the Express Oil Change warranty cover?

“Three months or 3,000 miles on parts and labor” for an oil change. Express says it will fix defects from the original service at no charge, if you let it check the car before any other repair, bring the receipt, and get the original location’s approval for work done elsewhere. Pre-existing conditions and parts you bring in are not covered.

### Who owns Express Oil Change?

Mavis. The two agreed to merge in February 2018, and Mavis’s release filed with the SEC on 20 August 2026 says Mavis “owns and operates” Express Oil alongside Brakes Plus, Midas, Pep Boys and others. A BayPine-led group agreed to acquire Mavis in 2021, with Golden Gate Capital, which bought Express in 2017, keeping a minority interest.

### Is Express Oil Change a franchise?

Partly. Its first franchise store opened in 1984, and it also runs corporate stores. A 2023 appeals court opinion describes Express buying 29 franchised stores in 2021 to make them corporate-owned. No document we reached gives today’s split, and store pages do not say which kind a shop is.

### Do I need an appointment at Express Oil Change?

Not for an oil change: the contact FAQ says Express does not take appointments for its 10-minute oil change or state inspections. Appointments are encouraged for mechanical work, and the Terms allow a booking fee or deposit for some online bookings, refundable with at least 72 hours’ notice.

### Does Express Oil Change have a military discount or Ladies Day?

Yes. Active and retired military get $5 off oil changes and 10% off mechanical services with ID and the coupon, excluding tires; the contact page caps it at $50, and it “Cannot be combined with any similar offer.” On Tuesdays, Ladies Day takes $5 off an oil change.
