## The short version

- NTB (National Tire & Battery) is a Mavis brand. Sears formed it in 1997, TBC bought it in 2003, and Mavis took it over in 2020 and 2023. Mavis’s store list shows 219 NTB stores in 15 states.
- NTB prints no warranty terms of its own. Its warranty page links to Mavis’s, whose terms are honored “at all locations owned by Mavis Tire Supply LLC,” a company no NTB page names.
- Road hazard cover, where it exists, is Mavis’s: bought separately at a price nobody prints, ending at 3 years or 2/32 inch of tread, and priced by how much tread is worn.
- NTB has no price match page, though its banners promise one; Mavis’s 30-day guarantee refunds the difference plus 5%, with exclusions.
- In 2020 a federal court approved a class settlement over claims that NTB failed to register customers’ tires for recalls; NTB and TBC agreed to a receipt notice telling buyers they can ask for a registration card.
- Free things at NTB are checks and dated coupons. Military members, reservists and veterans get 10% off in store. The NTB card is issued by Synchrony; new accounts since 07/31/25 carry a 34.99% purchase APR.

NTB is a chain of tire and repair shops, mostly in Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and Texas, that Mavis bought from TBC Corporation in 2020 and 2023. Its pages on mavis.com print almost no terms; the warranty, road hazard and price-match terms that apply are Mavis’s. On 10 October 2026 we read NTB’s pages and three of its store pages, Mavis’s store list, TBC’s 2003 annual report and the federal court’s 2020 order in a tire-registration class action against NTB. This site has no commercial relationship with NTB, Mavis or any tire seller.

**Figure: What NTB’s pages, Mavis’s terms and the 2020 settlement say, situation by situation**

Eight situations an NTB customer meets, set against what NTB’s pages, Mavis’s warranty and price-match terms, the federal tire-registration rule and the 2020 court-approved settlement print. Warn rows mark a gap, a cost or a contradiction.

Read from NTB’s pages on mavis.com, Mavis’s warranty and price-match terms, 49 CFR 574.8 and the court’s order of 1 September 2020 in Exum v. National Tire and Battery, on 10 October 2026.

## Who owns NTB: Sears, then TBC, now Mavis

Mavis does. NTB’s [page on mavis.com](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/) says: “NTB began its transition into the Mavis Tire family in 2020, with full brand acquisition completed in 2023. Originally operated by TBC Corporation, NTB, which totals over 350 locations nationwide, is now fully owned and operated by Mavis Tire.” It dates the chain to 1997, “formed from the merger of two Sears-owned chains: National Tire Warehouse and Tire America.”

The 2003 sale is in TBC Corp’s [annual report for 2003](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/718449/000095014404002566/g87803e10vk.htm), filed with the SEC: “On November 29, 2003, the Company acquired all of the outstanding capital stock of NTW Incorporated from Sears, Roebuck and Co.” NTW ran as a Sears division “under the name National Tire & Battery (NTB), with 225 retail tire and automotive centers in 20 states generating annual revenues in excess of $425 million.” TBC paid “total consideration of $225 million financed through debt and sale/leaseback arrangements,” and at closing sold and leased back 86 of the stores, 38.2% of them by our arithmetic, for about $132 million.

Mavis bought NTB in two steps. TBC’s release of 22 May 2023, recorded on our [Mavis Tires page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#ntb-tire-kingdom), announced a sale “through which Mavis will acquire 392 NTB Tire and Service Centers (NTB) and 203 Tire Kingdom Service Centers,” and mentioned “the 112 NTB stores acquired by Mavis from TBC in 2020.” Michelin, which runs TBC jointly with Sumitomo Corporation, dates the agreement 18 April 2023. TBC expected it “to close in the coming weeks”; no document we read gives a closing date or a price for either step.

Mavis itself is privately owned. A group led by BayPine, with TSG Consumer Partners and the Sorbaro family’s holding company, agreed to buy it on 5 March 2021; after buying [Pep Boys](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/pep-boys/) on 20 August 2026 it counted “more than 4,400 service center locations” (see our [Mavis page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#who-owns-mavis)). Sister brands have their own pages: [Tire Kingdom](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-kingdom/), [Town Fair Tire](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/town-fair-tire/), [Express Oil Change](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/express-oil-change/) and [Brakes Plus](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/brakes-plus/).

Which company stands behind which promise:

**Who is on the other side of each NTB document (read 10 October 2026)**

| What you are relying on | Who the document names |
| --- | --- |
| The NTB pages and their Terms of Use | “Mavis Tire Express Services Corp. d/b/a Mavis Discount Tire and Mavis Tires & Brakes” |
| Online orders (Terms of Sale, linked in the footer) | “Mavis Tire Supply LLC d/b/a Mavis Discount Tire” |
| Mavis’s tire warranties | Honored “at all locations owned by Mavis Tire Supply LLC” |
| The NTB company in 2003 | NTW Incorporated, bought from Sears, Roebuck and Co. by TBC |
| The NTB company in the 2019 lawsuit | “National Tire and Battery,” incorporated in Delaware with its main office in Florida, “a wholly-owned subsidiary” of TBC, the court says |
| The NTB credit card | Offered “through Synchrony” |
| The tire itself | The tire maker, under its own warranty; Mavis links 14 makers’ warranty pages |

No NTB page says which Mavis company owns the stores today, or what became of NTW Incorporated, which matters because Mavis’s warranty terms name the locations Mavis Tire Supply LLC owns. Every NTB page ends “© 2026 Mavis Tires and Brakes,” and ntb.com’s robots file now redirects to mavis.com/ntb/.

## Where the 219 NTB stores are

NTB’s locations page lists no stores; it offers to “Find your local Mavis.” The count comes from Mavis’s [all-stores page](https://www.mavis.com/locations/all-stores/), which labels each store with its brand. On 10 October 2026 it carried 1,636 entries, and 219 were labelled “NTB Tire & Service Centers,” the same figure this site’s Tire Kingdom research counted on the same list the day before. They sit in 15 states:

**NTB stores by state on Mavis’s store list, and whether NTB’s inspection page names the state (read 10 October 2026)**

| State | NTB stores | On the inspection page’s list of seven states? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Virginia | 60 | No |
| Maryland | 39 | No |
| Ohio | 33 | No |
| Texas | 28 | Yes |
| Pennsylvania | 17 | Yes |
| Tennessee | 10 | No |
| West Virginia | 9 | No |
| Louisiana | 6 | Yes |
| North Carolina | 5 | Yes |
| Missouri | 4 | No |
| Illinois, Mississippi, South Carolina | 2 each | No |
| Alabama, Georgia | 1 each | No |

By our arithmetic, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and Texas hold 160 of the 219 stores, 73.1%, and Virginia alone 27.4%. NTB is 13.4% of the list and a little under 5% of the “more than 4,400” locations Mavis claimed after buying Pep Boys. The list shows no NTB store in New York, New Jersey or New England. NTB’s own line that its stores “can be found across the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast” leaves out Texas, and in the Northeast the list shows only Pennsylvania’s 17. Some changed name: Mavis’s Tire Kingdom page says a 2015 realignment “rebranded many out-of-state Tire Kingdom stores under the NTB name.”

The printed counts disagree:

**NTB store counts in the records we read (read 10 October 2026)**

| When | Stores | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 29 November 2003 | 225, in 20 states | TBC’s 10-K for 2003, when TBC bought NTW from Sears |
| 29 January 2019 | “more than 1200 locations in 41 states” (alleged) | The class-action complaint, as the court summarized it |
| 2020 | 112 bought by Mavis | TBC’s 2023 release |
| 22 May 2023 | 392 in the sale agreement | TBC’s release on the sale to Mavis |
| Undated | “over 350 locations nationwide” | NTB’s page on mavis.com |
| 10 October 2026 | 219, in 15 states | Store labels on Mavis’s all-stores page |

By our arithmetic, Mavis bought 504 NTB stores from TBC across the two steps, 285 more than the list now labels NTB, and the list falls 131 short of NTB’s “over 350.” Neither Mavis nor TBC says how many closed or now trade as Mavis. The complaint’s figure is close to the “over 1,200” locations Big O’s 2019 warranty sheet gives for Big O, Tire Kingdom and NTB together.

## NTB’s tire warranty: a page with no terms

NTB’s [warranty page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/tire-warranty/) is headed “NTB TIRE WARRANTY,” and its whole text is: “Learn More NTB now joins Mavis Tire to provide you with dependable customer service for everything auto-care! Learn more about tire warranty today!” The button opens Mavis’s warranty page, which links Mavis’s [warranty terms](https://www.mavis.com/tire-parts-warranty/) and 14 tire makers’ pages. No NTB page names an NTB warranty or certificate.

Mavis’s terms cover “the New Tire Limited Warranty, the Limited Mileage Warranty, and the Road Hazard Limited Warranty”; our [Mavis page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#tire-warranties) reads them in full. The parts an NTB buyer needs:

- **Where.** “The Warranties will be honored at all locations owned by Mavis Tire Supply LLC,” and you must bring the invoice or receipt, the service record and the tire.
- **Who.** “The Warranties apply to the original purchaser (‘you’) and may not be assigned,” so they don’t pass to the next owner of the car.
- **Defects.** Covered until the tread “measures less than 2/32nd of an inch.” A replacement costs “the percentage of wear” times what you paid, installed free; balancing and taxes are extra.
- **Mileage.** A tire short of “the mileage specified on your purchase receipt” earns a credit for the miles not reached.
- **Your part.** Correct inflation, balance and alignment, and rotation, where “every 5,000 miles is recommended.”

The catch is the first line: no NTB page says its stores are owned by Mavis Tire Supply LLC. Ask for the terms in writing and check that your invoice names them. Federal rules back that request: a seller of a warranted product costing more than $15.00 must “make a text of the warranty readily available for examination by the prospective buyer” (16 CFR 702.3). Mavis’s terms cap implied warranties at the written ones’ length, which federal law allows only for a warranty “of reasonable duration” (15 U.S.C. 2308(b)).

The tire maker’s warranty comes on top; see [tire manufacturer warranties](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-manufacturer-warranties/) and [how to read tread depth](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-long-do-tires-last/#tread-depth).

## Road hazard cover at NTB: Mavis’s terms, bought separately

No NTB page mentions road hazard cover. The only terms are Mavis’s Road Hazard Limited Warranty, which begins “If you have purchased this warranty,” and Mavis’s Terms of Sale say only “Some tires” sold online come with the option. No page gives a price. Once bought:

- **What it covers.** A tire that “becomes unserviceable as a result of road hazards (e.g., cuts, snags, bruises, impact breaks, or other un-repairable punctures).”
- **How long.** “The duration of this warranty is the shorter of (i) 3 years from the purchase date or (ii) until the given tire retains less than 2/32nds of an inch of tread depth.” Whichever comes first ends it.
- **What you pay.** A replacement is “calculated by multiplying the percentage of wear by the original purchase price.” Mavis’s own example: a tire that started at 10/32 inch and is down to 7/32 is 38% worn, so on a $69.99 tire you pay $26.60. Our Mavis page has the [full wear table](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#percentage-of-wear).
- **What it leaves out.** Tires that can be repaired, cosmetic damage, overloading or abuse, “Road service, towing costs, and other incidental damage,” mounting, balancing and taxes, and tires moved to another vehicle.

**Without road hazard cover, a pothole is not covered by Mavis’s tire warranties.** Mavis’s New Tire Limited Warranty excludes tires that fail from “road hazards, such as cuts, snags, punctures, or impact breaks.” If you want road hazard cover at an NTB store, ask for it by name, ask the price, and get the terms printed on the invoice before you pay.

Older NTB paperwork may point elsewhere. TBC’s 2003 annual report says its stores offered “extended service programs and warranties,” and Big O Tires’ 2019 warranty sheet, read for our [Big O Tires page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/big-o-tires/), says its policies are “honored at over 1,200 Big O Tires, Tire Kingdom and NTB locations across America,” from when TBC owned all three. Nothing we read says Mavis honors a certificate sold under TBC. Compare the terms at [Discount Tire](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/discount-tire-warranty/) and [Town Fair Tire](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/town-fair-tire/#road-hazard).

## Tire registration, and the 2020 settlement over it

A tire maker can write to you about a recall only if it knows you bought its tires. Federal rule [49 CFR 574.8](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CFR-2025-title49-vol7/xml/CFR-2025-title49-vol7-sec574-8.xml) makes independent tire dealers handle that at the sale: give the buyer “a paper tire registration form” with “The entire tire identification number” and the dealer’s name and address filled in, send the form to the maker “at no charge to the tire purchaser and within 30 days of the date of sale,” or, in the summary of the court that heard the NTB case below, transmit the form electronically. Dealers must also “immediately stop selling any group of tires” when a recall notice tells them to.

NTB was sued over that rule. In Exum v. National Tire and Battery, No. 9:19-cv-80121, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on 29 January 2019, two Virginia buyers sued National Tire and Battery and TBC Corp. The court’s summary of the complaint: they “allegedly purchased tires from NTB in January, 2019,” and “according to the Complaint, NTB failed to provide either of them with a tire registration form or transmit their registration forms to the tire manufacturers.” Those were allegations. On 28 January 2020 the court “granted in part and denied in part” the defendants’ motion to dismiss, and on 7 February 2020 the parties told the court “the matter has been fully compromised and settled this day.” No court decided whether NTB broke the rule.

The court gave the settlement [final approval on 1 September 2020](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCOURTS-flsd-9_19-cv-80121/pdf/USCOURTS-flsd-9_19-cv-80121-2.pdf), finding it “fair, adequate, and reasonable.” Its main term is a notice on the receipt:

> “In accordance with Federal Regulations, TBC retains information related to tire sales, including the consumer’s name and address, the tire identification number, and the dealer’s name and address. In the event of a tire recall, TBC will provide such information to the tire manufacturer so that the tire manufacturer can send you notice of a recall. If you would prefer to register your tires directly with the manufacturer, please ask the store representative for a tire-registration card.”

The other terms, as the order describes them:

- **Records check.** When a customer returns for tire work, the associate “will be instructed to check available records” and update the registration “to the extent necessary.”
- **Who was covered.** U.S. buyers of tires for personal use whose tires the defendants did not register, from 29 January 2014: “more than one thousand customers each year,” the court says.
- **Money.** The defendants agreed to pay $645,000 in fees and costs to class counsel and $7,500 to each of the two named buyers, $660,000 in all by our arithmetic. The order lists no payment to other class members, who “are not releasing their claims, if any, for monetary damages.”
- **Objection.** One objection, from “a purported class member,” was overruled.

The court noted that in a similar case against [Pep Boys](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/pep-boys/), a federal court in Pennsylvania had found “an individual tire purchaser lacked standing to sue.” The order bound NTB and TBC in 2020, before Mavis took over; we saw no current NTB receipt and don’t know whether the notice still appears. Ask for a registration card, keep the tire identification numbers, and check them in [NHTSA’s recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls); see [tire age and recalls](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-long-do-tires-last/#recalls).

**Figure: Annotated photograph**

Three numbered callouts over the photograph mark the sidewall’s fine print, the tire’s outer edge and its size lettering, each with one fact from the federal tire-registration rule, Mavis’s road hazard terms and NTB’s 2020 settlement.

The federal tire-registration rule, Mavis’s road hazard terms and NTB’s 2020 settlement order, read on 9 October 2026: Federal rule: the dealer records this tire ID on a registration form, or sends it in (callout 1); Mavis road hazard cover ends at 3 years or 2/32 inch of tread, whichever comes first (callout 2); NTB’s 2020 settlement: you can ask the store for a tire-registration card (callout 3). The photograph is illustrative.

## What’s free at NTB, and what the coupons leave out

NTB’s pages list nothing free with a set of tires. What is free sits inside coupons, most with an expiry date, and the [coupons page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/coupons/) says “Store coupons should be printed and brought to the in-store appointment for redemption.” Set beside Mavis’s own wording:

**Free checks and services on NTB’s pages, with Mavis’s terms beside them (read 10 October 2026)**

| Service | NTB’s pages | Mavis’s pages |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tire rotation | “Free Tire Rotation” coupon, a “Limited Time Offer” with an expiry date; the oil change coupon “Includes Tire Rotation and Visual Brake Inspection” | “If you previously bought your tires at Mavis, we offer free tire rotations on those tires.” |
| Alignment | “Free Alignment Check” and “90 Day Warranty Included” under a coupon | Parts table: wheel alignment 3 months or 3,000 miles |
| Brakes | “Free Visual Brake Inspection” under a dated special | Brake pads: lifetime part, 12 months or 12,000 miles of labor |
| Balancing | “Warranty Included” with no terms | Not in the parts table; “All other items not listed” get 3/3,000 |
| Battery | “Free Battery Check” and “Warranty Included” | A free replacement period, then a prorated credit through month 60 |
| Shocks and struts | “Free Visual Suspension Inspection”; “Valid on Parts” and “Excludes Labor” | Struts and shocks: lifetime part, 12/12,000 labor |
| Muffler and exhaust | “Free Visual Muffler and Exhaust Inspection” | Muffler assembly: lifetime part, 12/12,000 labor |
| Oil change | “Fluid checks and basic inspections are included” (store pages) | No separate term |
| Tire and alignment checks | Not printed | “Any Mavis location will check and inspect tire condition, wheel alignment, and vehicle condition at any time without charge.” |

Mavis ties free rotation to tires bought at Mavis; NTB’s pages offer a coupon instead, so ask whether NTB tires rotate free for life or only while a coupon runs. The [rotation page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/tire-rotation/) adds that a matching full-size spare gets “a five-tire rotation” and that “we’ll reset the tire pressure sensors.” See [rotation intervals](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-rotation-cost/#interval).

The brake page is written for the sister chain: “How much does brake service cost at Tire Kingdom?” It promises “free inspections with oil changes or tire rotations” at “any Tire Kingdom location,” and never says the same of NTB.

The maintenance advice is NTB’s view, not a rule: oil “every 3,000 miles, or every 3 months,” about 5,000 on synthetic; an alignment check “every six months or 6,000 miles”; balancing at each rotation, “usually every 5,000 miles.” Your owner’s manual governs; see our pages on [alignment](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/wheel-alignment-cost/) and [brake pads](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/brake-pad-replacement-cost/).

## Repair warranties: “Warranty Included” and Mavis’s parts table

NTB’s coupons for balancing, batteries, shocks and exhaust end with “Warranty Included” and nothing more; the alignment coupon says “90 Day Warranty Included.” The only written repair warranty on the site is Mavis’s mechanical labor and parts table ([read in full here](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#parts-labor-warranty)). Some of its rows, part warranty first and labor second:

- **Brake pads and shoes:** lifetime part, 12 months or 12,000 miles of labor.
- **Struts and shocks:** lifetime part, 12/12,000 labor.
- **Muffler assembly:** lifetime part, 12/12,000 labor; a catalytic converter gets 60 months or 50,000 miles on the part.
- **Wheel alignment:** 3 months or 3,000 miles.
- **Batteries:** a free replacement period, then “a prorated credit period from the end of the free replacement period through month 60”; see our [battery warranty guide](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/car-battery-warranty/).
- **Everything else:** “All other items not listed (excluding tires and batteries)” get 3 months or 3,000 miles.

Mavis spells out what the shorthand means: “12/12,000” lasts “12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first,” and with a “lifetime” part, once the labor term ends “you will be charged at the then-current labor rate” to fit the free replacement. The table covers “the original purchaser (‘you’) of Mavis services,” and NTB’s pages don’t say it applies to their work. Mavis’s own FAQ says only that “Mavis offers additional service warranties depending on the work performed.” Get the warranty for the job written on the invoice.

## Price match, the military discount and the missing senior discount

NTB has no price match page. The address /ntb/pricematch/ serves Mavis’s “404 Page Not Found” page, and Mavis’s sitemap lists no NTB price match page among the 42 NTB addresses it carries. Yet NTB’s pages carry a “Price Match Guarantee” banner and the line “We will beat any price,” and its store pages show a “30-Day Price Guarantee.” The [tire deals page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/tire-deals/) says: “just submit the ad, tire size, and brand to our Price Buster Squad. You will receive a call from our team to redeem the lower price,” and links to Mavis’s page.

The rules are on [Mavis’s price match page](https://www.mavis.com/tire-price-match-guarantee/): a “30-day price guarantee. If you find the same tire for a lower price 30 days after your purchase, we’ll refund the difference plus 5%.” Matches need “verifiable competitor price quotes on new, in-stock tires with the same brand, model, size, and construction”; closeouts, member and sale pricing, promotional codes, instant rebates and third-party sellers are out, and “a price match cannot be combined with any warranty transaction.” See our [Mavis page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#price-match-card).

The military discount is NTB’s own and is the clearest standing offer on its pages. The [military discount page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/coupons/military-discount/) says “all service members save 10% on their order pre-tax”:

- **Who.** “All active duty military personnel, reservists, or veterans are eligible for a 10% discount,” with military ID.
- **What.** “Yes, our Military discounts are applied to all products and services,” taken “before the addition of sales tax.”
- **Where.** In store only: “the military discount is not applicable for online purchases.”
- **Not with.** “any other coupons, vouchers, or special offers,” and “price-match and warranty transactions are excluded.”

NTB has no veteran or first-responder page; the matching addresses serve the 404 page. Seniors are a loose end: the military page asks for “a valid state I.D. for senior citizens,” but no NTB page offers a senior discount. Mavis’s FAQ does: “Anyone who is 65 or older (confirm with valid state ID) gets 5% off.” Ask whether an NTB store applies it.

## The NTB credit card, and ways to pay

The [NTB card page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/credit-card/) says: “NTB offers customers a credit card through Synchrony with a revolving credit line to use again and again at NTB locations and over 1 million automotive locations nationwide.” It is part of the Synchrony Car Care network, so it also pays for fuel, car washes, parking and tolls. Its printed standing terms:

- **Rates.** “New Accounts as of 07/31/25: Purchase APR 34.99%. Penalty APR 39.99%. Minimum Interest Charge $2.”
- **Promotional financing.** “We offer 6 months Promotional Financing on purchases of $199 or more.” It is deferred interest: if the promo balance isn’t paid in full in time, “interest will be charged on the promo balance from the purchase date,” and minimum payments “may or may not pay off the promo balance.” “Gas station purchases are not eligible for Promotional Financing.”
- **Fees and extras.** “The card has no annual fee and $0 fraud liability,” and you can schedule up to 12 future payments.
- **Applying.** Prequalification has “no impact to your credit score,” but the full application “will result in an inquiry on your credit report.” You apply at mavis.com/card or with an associate in an NTB store.

A dated per-tire statement credit also runs; we don’t record promotional amounts. With a 34.99% purchase APR behind it, the six-month offer is free only if the whole promotional balance is cleared in time.

The card FAQ says “the NTB Credit Card is accepted across ALL Mavis brands,” under a question that asks about “other NTB owned brands.” Neither of the page’s two brand lists, of 15 and 8 names, includes [Midas](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/midas/) or [Pep Boys](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/pep-boys/), both of which Mavis lists among the brands it “owns and operates.” NTB’s own store pages advertise the Mavis card instead (“Already a Mavis Credit Cardholder?”). The two Synchrony payment numbers on the card page differ in their last two digits; use the number on your statement.

Payment methods are listed three ways. The [payment options page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/payment-options/) shows six: Discover, Mastercard, American Express, Visa, cash and the NTB card. Its FAQ adds: “Yes, Mavis accepts checks and cash for in-store purchases.” The three store pages we read list nine methods, adding Goodyear, CFNA Bridgestone, “Store” and Flex Shopper cards but not checks or the NTB card. Call ahead before relying on a check.

## Where NTB’s own pages disagree

Read side by side on 10 October 2026, NTB’s pages contradict each other, or leave a promise without terms, in fourteen places:

- **Store count.** NTB’s page claims “over 350 locations nationwide”; Mavis’s own list shows 219.
- **Location banners.** “3,500+ Locations” and “over 2,100 locations in 36 states” are Mavis-wide; the NTB locations page lists no NTB store.
- **Regions.** Stores are “across the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast”; the list has 28 in Texas and, in the Northeast, only Pennsylvania’s 17.
- **State inspections.** Store pages in Fairfax, Akron and Houston each say “We perform certified state vehicle inspections”; the [inspection page](https://www.mavis.com/ntb/inspection-service/) lists “New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas, and Louisiana,” four states holding 56 of the 219 stores by our arithmetic. Virginia, Maryland and Ohio are not on it.
- **The warranty page.** “NTB TIRE WARRANTY,” with no terms.
- **The brake page.** Its answers are written for Tire Kingdom.
- **Price match.** Promised in banners and store tiles; the NTB price match address is a 404 page.
- **Payment methods.** Six on the payment page, nine on store pages, and checks only in the FAQ.
- **Contact pages.** The contact page reads only “Mavis Discount Tire”; corporate and customer-service addresses are 404 pages.
- **Seniors.** The military page asks seniors for state ID; no NTB page offers them anything.
- **“ALL Mavis brands.”** The card’s brand lists omit Midas and Pep Boys.
- **Phone numbers.** The card page’s two Synchrony numbers differ in their last two digits.
- **Which card.** NTB pages sell the NTB card; NTB store pages advertise the Mavis card.
- **Free rotation.** A “Limited Time Offer” coupon on NTB’s pages; a perk for Mavis tire buyers on Mavis’s.

Each is a question to settle at the counter. Separately, Mavis Tire Supply, LLC settled state allegations about its sales practices in Georgia in 2022 and in Pennsylvania in 2026, whose release says a settlement is not “an admission of a violation of the law”; our [Mavis page](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/mavis-tires/#settlements-arbitration) reads both. Neither names NTB.

## Before you buy tires or a repair at NTB

- **Ask which warranty applies.** Get the tire and repair warranty terms in writing and check that the invoice names them; NTB’s own warranty page has none.
- **Decide on road hazard cover at the counter.** Ask whether it is offered on your tires, what it costs and how a replacement is priced. Mavis’s version ends at 3 years or 2/32 inch and charges you for tread worn.
- **Register the tires.** Ask for a tire-registration card, or check that the receipt says the store will register them, and note the tire identification numbers.
- **Bring old certificates.** If you bought road hazard cover under TBC, ask before a tire fails whether Mavis honors it.
- **Ask about rotation.** Find out whether tires bought at NTB rotate free, and for how long.
- **Bring ID for discounts.** Military ID for the 10% military discount; ask whether the Mavis 5% senior discount applies if you are 65 or older.
- **Read the card terms first.** A six-month promotion is deferred interest at a 34.99% purchase APR for new accounts; clear it in time or pay interest from the purchase date.
- **Confirm an inspection before you go.** If you need a state inspection, call the store; NTB’s inspection page doesn’t list Virginia, Maryland or Ohio.

## Common questions

### Who owns NTB?

Mavis Tire Express Services Corp. Mavis bought 112 NTB stores from TBC Corporation in 2020 and agreed in 2023 to buy 392 more; NTB is “now fully owned and operated by Mavis Tire,” its page says. TBC had bought NTB from Sears in 2003. Mavis is privately held, backed since 2021 by a BayPine-led group.

### How many NTB stores are there?

Mavis’s store list labels 219 stores NTB, in 15 states, as of 10 October 2026; the largest groups are in Virginia (60), Maryland (39), Ohio (33) and Texas (28). NTB’s own page says “over 350 locations nationwide,” and neither Mavis nor TBC says how many former NTB stores closed or now trade as Mavis.

### Does NTB have a tire warranty or road hazard warranty?

Not one of its own. NTB’s warranty page has no terms and links to Mavis’s. Mavis sells a Road Hazard Limited Warranty, at a price it doesn’t publish, that lasts 3 years or until the tread is below 2/32 inch, whichever comes first, and charges the percentage of tread worn times the original price for a replacement, plus mounting, balancing and taxes.

### Does NTB price match?

Its pages promise a “Price Match Guarantee” but NTB has no price match page; its tire deals page sends you to Mavis’s Price Buster Squad. Mavis’s terms give a 30-day guarantee, the difference plus 5% if you find the same tire for less, with exclusions for sale pricing, instant rebates, closeouts and third-party sellers.

### Who issues the NTB credit card?

Synchrony, as a Synchrony Car Care card. New accounts as of 07/31/25 carry a 34.99% purchase APR and a 39.99% penalty APR; six-month promotional financing on $199 or more is deferred interest, charged from the purchase date if the balance isn’t paid in full in time.

### Does NTB register my tires for recalls?

It should: federal rule 49 CFR 574.8 requires independent dealers to give you a registration form or send it to the tire maker within 30 days. In a 2020 class settlement over claims that it hadn’t, NTB and TBC agreed to put a notice on receipts telling buyers they can ask for a registration card. That was before Mavis took over, so ask for the card and check NHTSA’s recall lookup yourself.
