# Walmart Tires: Installation, Walmart’s Own Warranty and Road Hazard

> Walmart backs its own tire warranty: free replacement in year 1 or the first 25% of tread, then prorated. What installation covers, road hazard and returns.

## The short version

- Walmart backs its own tire warranty on tires it sells and installs: “We do not send tires back to the manufacturer for warranty.”
- A defective tire is replaced free during the first 25% of usable tread or the first year, whichever comes first, then as a pro-rata Walmart tire credit. Installation and taxes are always extra.
- Walmart’s defect and mileage warranties require rotation “every 6,000-7,500 miles,” while its service FAQ says every 6,000 to 8,000. Rotate by the warranty’s number.
- Road hazards need the Optional Road Hazard Warranty, which runs until the tread is down to 2/32 inch. Walmart+ members get it through the Value package at the Basic price, which “saves $10 per tire.” Not in New York.
- With Walmart tires, mounting, inflation, a TPMS re-learn and a 50-mile re-torque are free; balancing, service packs and road hazard cover cost extra. No page we read prints a package price.
- Walmart+ members get free flat repair on qualifying tires bought anywhere; non-members pay $15. Unmounted tires can go back within 90 days with a receipt, to a store with an Auto Care Center.

Walmart installs the tires it sells at its Auto Care Centers, and unlike the other tire sellers this site has read, it puts its own name on the warranty: a defect is replaced free in the first year or first 25% of usable tread, then prorated, and a mileage shortfall is prorated too, if you rotate every 6,000-7,500 miles. Road hazard cover is a separate, optional warranty that Walmart+ members get through the Value package. On 7 October 2026 we read Walmart’s [Tire Warranty Terms and Conditions](https://www.walmart.com/help/article/tire-warranty-terms-and-conditions/367ebb18c6a346c5abf407b456a1c9a8) (last updated October 9, 2023), the tire FAQ on its [Auto Services page](https://www.walmart.com/cp/auto-services/1087266), its Walmart+ auto care pages and Terms, its Return Policy and its Terms of Use. This site has no commercial relationship with Walmart or any tire seller.

**Figure: Which Walmart tire promise applies, by what happened to the tire**

A two-column table of eight situations for a tire bought and installed at Walmart: a defect inside 1 year and the first 25% of usable tread is replaced free under Walmart’s own warranty, installation and taxes extra; a later defect gets a pro-rata Walmart tire credit; early wear-out against the invoice mileage gets a pro-rata store credit under Walmart’s Limited Treadwear Warranty; tires not rotated every 6,000-7,500 miles lose both warranties; Walmart+ members get free repair of a repairable nail on a qualifying tire bought anywhere, non-members pay $15; a ruined tire with the Optional Road Hazard Warranty is replaced free in year 1 or the first 25% of tread, then pro rata; without that warranty, and in New York, a road hazard is not covered; and at 2/32 inch of tread every Walmart promise ends.

## What Walmart tire installation includes, and what costs extra

Walmart’s answer to its own question, “What does Walmart tire installation include?”, is short: “Walmart tire installation includes mounting, TPMS re-learn & free 50-mile re-torque. Additional charges for balancing, road hazard warranty & service packs.” The detail under it says the mounting itself costs nothing when the tires are Walmart’s: “Receive free tire installation with purchase of Walmart tires. Installation includes mounting & tire inflation.”

So free installation means the tire goes onto the wheel and gets air; balancing is extra. Item by item:

**Walmart tire installation, item by item, as its Auto Services FAQ and Walmart+ pages describe it (read 7 October 2026)**

| Item | What Walmart says | Free or extra |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Mounting and inflation | “Receive free tire installation with purchase of Walmart tires” | Free with Walmart tires |
| TPMS re-learn | Free “with the purchase of tires, or if light is on. Includes OE re-learn” | Free; sensors and service packs extra |
| Lug nut re-torque | Free “within the first 50 miles after your tire installation” | Free |
| Balancing | “Additional charge applies for tire balancing” | Extra |
| Lifetime balance and rotation | “Once purchased,” balancing and rotation “every 6,000 to 8,000 miles” | Extra, bought once |
| Service packs | “Additional charges apply for the sensors & service pack replacements” | Extra |
| Road hazard warranty | “can be purchased separately for new Walmart tires at the time of purchase and installation” | Extra; free for Walmart+ members through the Value package |

A TPMS re-learn is free, but a failed sensor or a sensor service pack is not; our guide to [what happens to pressure sensors when tires are changed](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tpms-light/#tyres-changed) explains why those parts can be needed.

Walmart sells installation as packages. Its Walmart+ pages name a “Basic package” and a “Value package with road hazard protection.” None of the pages we read says what the Basic package contains or what either one costs.

**We do not quote Walmart’s installation prices, on purpose.** The package prices appear on Walmart’s tire-installation listing and at checkout. Walmart’s Terms of Use say “Any collection and use of any product listings, descriptions, or prices” is “strictly prohibited,” so we did not read that listing. Check the per-tire total for each package, and what the Basic package includes, on your own order before you pay.

## Lifetime balance and rotation, and the rotation rule that matters

Walmart’s ongoing tire service is the “lifetime balance”: “Once purchased the lifetime balance provides free tire balancing and rotation services every 6,000 to 8,000 miles for the eligible life of the qualified tires from the original purchase date of the service/tire(s), subject to terms and conditions.” It is bought, not part of free mounting, and we found its terms and conditions on no Walmart page.

The interval is where buyers can trip. Walmart’s defect warranty excludes “Tires that were not rotated every 6,000-7,500 miles,” and its mileage warranty makes the same interval a condition. Yet Walmart’s FAQ tells you to rotate every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, and a general FAQ on the same page says “Most manuals suggest rotating tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.” By our arithmetic the FAQ’s upper figure overshoots the warranty’s by 500 miles each time.

**Rotate by the warranty, not the FAQ.** Walmart’s defect and mileage warranties both require rotation “every 6,000-7,500 miles.” If you follow the FAQ’s 8,000-mile figure, you can fall outside the contract. Rotate by 7,500 miles at the latest, or sooner if your vehicle maker’s schedule says so, and keep each invoice with the odometer reading on it.

The warranty does not say what proof of rotation it accepts, and in a dispute Walmart decides. Our guide to [tire rotation intervals](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-rotation-cost/#interval) covers vehicle makers’ schedules, which can be shorter than either Walmart figure, and our page on [reading tire wear for alignment faults](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/wheel-alignment-cost/#reading-wear) matters because wear from misalignment is outside Walmart’s mileage warranty.

## Walmart’s own defect warranty: who backs it and what it pays

Most tire sellers point you to the tire maker for defects. Walmart does not. Its Limited Workmanship and Materials Warranty “applies to all tires that are purchased from Walmart or Walmart.com and installed at a Walmart Auto Care Center (‘ACC’) within a Walmart store. This warranty is backed by Walmart and protects the original purchaser from defects in the raw materials or quality of workmanship that require a tire to be removed from service. Walmart stands behind the warranties of the tires that we sell. We do not send tires back to the manufacturer for warranty.”

Walmart must have sold the tire and installed it; a tire bought at Walmart and fitted elsewhere, or the reverse, is outside the warranty. It lasts “for the life of the tire, as measured by the usable tread depth,” which stops at “the final 2/32nds of an inch,” and “Walmart will measure and determine the usable tread depth.” Our guide to [reading tread depth](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-long-do-tires-last/#tread-depth) shows where 2/32 inch sits.

What a defective tire gets you depends on when it fails. Tires “deemed defective will be replaced free of charge (except for installation cost and applicable taxes and government-mandated charges) during the first 25% of usable tread or one (1) year, whichever comes first.” After that, they “will be replaced on a pro-rata basis with comparable new tires based on tread depth remaining, in the form of a Walmart tire credit.” The free window closes at the first anniversary of purchase or when a quarter of the usable tread is gone, whichever comes first.

Walmart prints its own example: “if your tire is 1/2 worn at the time your tire is deemed defective, you would receive a credit of half the current price of that tire toward the current price of a new or replacement tire. If the price for a comparable tire is $120, you will pay $60 plus any additional charges such as tire installation cost and any other applicable taxes and fees.” The $120 is Walmart’s illustration. The credit is figured on the current price of a comparable tire, not on what you paid.

It applies “IF AND ONLY IF” 4 conditions hold: you are the original purchaser and the tires stayed on that vehicle; you present “the original tire installation record and the original invoice”; the failure is not excluded; and the tires were rotated every 6,000-7,500 miles. The 12 exclusions (11 distinct, since “Racing” is printed twice) include “Road hazards,” “Rapid or irregular wear,” improper repair, accident, off-road use and “Worn mechanical components on the vehicle,” and commercial use such as taxi service and towing is out.

To claim, you “must present your tires and the vehicle on which the tires were used to your local Walmart ACC for inspection,” with “your original invoice and your Walmart installation record.” Walmart decides “at its sole discretion” whether a tire is defective, “Tires accepted for the claim become Walmart’s property,” and nothing is paid for “loss of time, loss of use of vehicle, inconvenience, or incidental or consequential damages.” And “No Walmart representative or employee has the authority to make or imply any representation, promise or agreement that differs in any way from the terms of this Warranty,” so rely on the document, not on what is said at the counter.

One catch links the warranties: if a defective tire had road hazard cover, “you will need to purchase new Optional Road Hazard Warranty coverage on the replacement tire.”

## The mileage warranty is Walmart’s too

The same article carries a second promise, the Limited Treadwear Warranty. It “applies to all tires that have a posted limited treadwear warranty when purchased from Walmart or Walmart.com and installed at, and by, Walmart. This warranty is backed by Walmart.” It provides “a pro-rata replacement if the tread wears out before reaching the warranted mileage based on your Walmart invoice,” and a tire counts as worn out at 2/32 inch. Check that the warranted mileage is printed on your invoice; only tires with a posted treadwear warranty are covered.

Its conditions mirror the defect warranty’s, rotation included. It excludes wear the tire did not cause, such as “Uneven or rapid wear caused by mechanical irregularity in the vehicle such as wheel misalignment,” “Road hazard injury,” abuse, “Flat spotting caused by improper storage, or brake lock” and “Cosmetic zone or weather cracking.”

The payout is a store credit, and the formula needs a second look: “Walmart will determine the credit amount by multiplying the percent of mileage received by the then current actual selling price at Walmart.” Walmart’s example: “if a tire warranted for 40,000 miles wore out after 20,000 miles, you would receive a credit of half the current price of that tire,” so on a $120 comparable tire you would pay $60 plus charges.

Read literally, “percent of mileage received” rewards the tire that lasted longer. By our arithmetic, a tire warranted for 40,000 miles that wears out at 30,000 received 75% of its mileage; the literal formula would credit 75% of the price, where the usual pro-rata reading credits the 25% not received. Walmart’s example sits at the halfway point, where both readings agree, so ask to see the calculation on any mileage claim.

The claim route is the same, with the vehicle “on which the tires were originally installed.” Walmart’s pages do not say whether a tire maker’s own mileage warranty also applies; our page on [tire manufacturers’ warranties](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/tire-manufacturer-warranties/) covers what the makers promise.

## The Optional Road Hazard Warranty

“Road hazards” sit on the defect warranty’s excluded list. For those, Walmart sells a separate contract: “This document is your contract. This Road Hazard Warranty is OPTIONAL protection that can be purchased and is ONLY EFFECTIVE WHEN THE ORIGINAL INVOICE IS PRESENTED WITH THIS WARRANTY FORM.” It covers failures from “nails, glass, metal stones and other similar items that could damage or puncture a tire,” including impact breaks and non-repairable punctures.

It has no time limit in years. It lasts “for the life of the tires, defined as the duration of usable tread depth,” to the same 2/32 inch. Within that life it does two things:

- **Repairable damage.** “Walmart will repair a flat tire for free under the provisions of this Warranty (except for the tire installation cost and applicable taxes and government-mandated charges).” The contract does not say what installation cost a repair would carry.
- **Non-repairable damage.** The same scale as the defect warranty: replaced free “during the first 25% of usable tread or one (1) year from the date of purchase, whichever comes first,” and after that “on a pro-rata basis with comparable new tires based on tread depth remaining, in the form of a Walmart tire credit.”

Walmart’s example is the same half-worn tire on a $120 comparable tire: you pay $60 plus charges. By our arithmetic on shares alone, a ruined tire that had used 40% of its usable tread earns a credit of the remaining 60% of a comparable tire’s current price, and you pay the other 40% plus installation, taxes and charges.

**Figure: Annotated photograph**

Three numbered callouts over a car wheel being worked on mark the tire, a lug nut and the wheel rim, with where Walmart's tire promises end, its flat-repair terms for Walmart+ members and others, and its own defect warranty.

Walmart’s Tire Warranty Terms and Conditions and its auto service and Walmart+ pages, read on 7 October 2026, end every tire promise at 2/32 inch of tread (callout 1), give Walmart+ members a free repair on a qualifying tire bought anywhere while others pay $15 (callout 2), and replace a defective tire free in the first year or first 25% of tread under Walmart’s own warranty (callout 3). The photograph is illustrative.

Its 4 conditions: you bought this warranty from Walmart; you present the installation record and the invoices “for purchase of the tires and for your purchase of this Optional Road Hazard Warranty”; Walmart installed the tires and they stayed on that vehicle; and the damage is not among the 11 exclusions, which include accident, vandalism, improper repair, abuse, “Off-road use” and “Rapid or irregular wear.” Unlike the other two warranties, it has no rotation condition.

The contract ends with two lines: “Road hazard warranty not available in New York state,” and, under “REFUND,” that “Where applicable, you may have the right of a limited period of time in which you may cancel this Road Hazard Warranty and receive a refund.” It does not say where that applies or for how long, and it prints no price.

**The road hazard warranty is bought at the counter or not at all.** Walmart’s FAQ says it “can be purchased separately for new Walmart tires at the time of purchase and installation.” After the first year or first 25% of tread, the payout is a credit toward a new tire, and installation is charged on the replacement every time.

Walmart’s FAQ describes the plan differently: after the first year or 25% of tread life, “the tire will be pro-rated based on mileage driven of the eligible tire.” The contract, which Walmart calls “your contract,” prorates on tread depth remaining. Ask which measure the store uses.

## Walmart+ auto care: free flat repair and the road hazard warranty

Walmart+ changes the tire math. Its [auto care article](https://www.walmart.com/help/article/walmart-benefits-auto-care/9b7deb0aa485427fa605fbcd05bd2e62) lists “Free flat repair” and a “Free road hazard warranty when you buy new tires with installation.” Membership fees are not printed in the Walmart+ Terms, which say they “are stated in the subscription sign up,” so we quote none.

**Flat repair.** “Bring any tire with a puncture to the auto care center for repair. If we can repair the tire, we’ll do it for free. Non-members pay $15 for this service.” The tire need not come from Walmart, repairs are “for non-commercial use only,” and the Terms call it “unlimited tire repair,” adding that “The member is not required to own the tire or vehicle.” No appointment is needed; the membership is verified at the center with a QR scan.

It covers tires on “passenger cars, light trucks, minivans, small RVs & crossovers.” Walmart will not repair a tire with less than 2/32 inch of usable tread, or “when the location or size of the damage doesn’t meet industry standards for tire repair,” a call left “solely at Walmart’s discretion.” Utility, specialty and commercial-vehicle tires are excluded. Run-flats have tighter limits of their own; see [why shops often refuse to repair run-flats](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/run-flat-tires/#repair).

**The road hazard warranty.** “When you purchase a tire installation package, we’ll offer you the Value package with road hazard protection for the price of the Basic package. This saves $10 per tire.” By our arithmetic that is $40 on a set of four. Walmart’s perks page puts it the other way round: “Purchase new tires with the Value package installation and you’ll get the warranty included for free.” Free means the Value package at the Basic price.

The benefit page adds: “Limited to tire(s) purchased & installed at Walmart Auto Care Centers. Active Walmart+ membership required at time of purchase & installation. Vehicle restrictions apply. Road hazard warranty not available in NY. Vehicle must be present at the time of installation to receive coverage.” The Terms promise “a receipt showing ‘proof of purchase’ of the tires and the warranty benefit, which must be retained and presented to make a claim.” On New York, the help article says members “aren’t eligible to receive the Walmart+ Auto Care Center Road Hazard Warranty benefit in New York state after February 28, 2025,” while earlier purchases are honoured. Walmart cites “a new law” without naming it.

Once applied, the member warranty is the same contract: members “agree to be bound by any and all restrictions and terms of Walmart Auto Care Centers, including the terms and conditions of the Road Hazard Warranty.” Membership is checked at purchase and installation; the pages we read do not say the warranty ends if the membership later lapses.

**What each Walmart tire promise needs from you, and where it ends (Walmart documents read 7 October 2026)**

| Promise | What you must show or do | Ends at | Still yours to pay |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Limited Workmanship and Materials Warranty | Tires and vehicle, original invoice, Walmart installation record; rotation every 6,000-7,500 miles | 2/32 inch of tread | Installation, taxes, charges; the pro-rata share after year 1 or 25% of tread |
| Limited Treadwear Warranty | The same, with a warranted mileage on the Walmart invoice | 2/32 inch, or the warranted mileage | Installation, taxes, charges; the difference after the store credit |
| Optional Road Hazard Warranty | Tires and vehicle, invoices for the tires and for the warranty, installation record | 2/32 inch of tread | Installation, taxes, charges; the pro-rata share after year 1 or 25% of tread |
| Walmart+ road hazard benefit | Active membership and QR scan at purchase; vehicle present; keep the proof-of-purchase receipt | 2/32 inch of tread | The Basic package price; then as the road hazard warranty |
| Walmart+ flat repair | Membership check at the center; non-commercial use | Below 2/32 inch, or damage outside industry standards | Nothing, if repairable; non-members pay $15 |

## Buying tires online and having Walmart install them

Walmart sells tires online for fitting at its centers, and its October 9, 2025 news post says bookings go through the Auto Services section of its app. The same post counts Auto Care Centers in 2,582 Supercenters; the Walmart+ page says “all 2500+.” Not every Walmart has one, which matters for returns.

The same post says Walmart expanded “its installation-eligible digital tire assortment to include Walmart Marketplace tires,” so a tire from a third-party seller on Walmart.com can be shipped to a center for fitting. Walmart’s warranties cover tires “purchased from Walmart or Walmart.com and installed at a Walmart Auto Care Center”; no page we read says whether a Marketplace seller’s tire counts, and Marketplace items may be returned only “within 30 days.” If the seller is not Walmart, ask which warranty applies before you buy.

Whoever sells the tire, check the size against the door-jamb placard, which our guide to [finding your tire size](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/tire-size-by-vin/#the-placard) treats as the authority, and read the build date on arrival with our guide to [the tire date code](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/how-long-do-tires-last/#date-code).

## Returning tires to Walmart

Walmart’s help article on returns does not mention tires; it points to the corporate [Return Policy](https://corporate.walmart.com/policies), updated August 17, 2026, for exceptions. There, tires sit in the list of “Receipt Required Items” under “90 Days,” and the note on them reads: “New tires that have not been mounted or installed are returnable to any store with an Auto Care Center. Stores without an Auto Care Center cannot accept tire returns.”

Once a tire is on a wheel, it is no longer returnable. The policy’s final-sale list, things Walmart and Marketplace sellers “will not replace, accept returns, or provide refunds for,” includes “Tires, Wheels, Rims, Snow Tires (used or mounted).” If a tire turns out wrong after fitting, your remedies are the warranties above, not the return policy.

Marketplace sellers’ items follow a 30-day window, and “Items purchased from dealers or resellers and not Walmart or Walmart.com directly aren’t eligible for return, refund, or exchange.” The holiday extension, under which “Most items purchased between October 01 through December 31 are returnable until January 31,” lists exceptions that do not include tires, but the policy does not say whether it stretches a tire’s window; ask at the store.

## Walmart beside Sam’s Club, Costco and Discount Tire: the printed terms

Of the four national sellers whose tire terms this site has read, only Walmart puts its own warranty on defects and wear. The table compares printed terms only, not prices, and ranks no one; the other columns come from our pages on [Sam’s Club tires](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/sams-club-tires/#road-hazard) and the [Discount Tire warranty](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/discount-tire-warranty/#no-store-warranty) (read 7 October 2026) and [Costco tires](https://baronauto1.com/car-care/costco-tires/#road-hazard-warranty) (read 6 October 2026).

**Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco and Discount Tire tire terms as each prints them (Walmart, Sam’s Club and Discount Tire read 7 October 2026; Costco read 6 October 2026)**

| Term | Walmart | Sam’s Club | Costco | Discount Tire |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Who stands behind a defect | Walmart’s own Limited Workmanship and Materials Warranty; tires are not sent back to the maker | The tire maker’s warranty; Sam’s Club helps you claim it | The maker’s warranty; Costco’s road hazard warranty does not replace it | The maker’s; Discount Tire’s invoice terms say “No Seller Warranty” |
| Road hazard cover | Optional Road Hazard Warranty; free for Walmart+ members through the Value package | Road Hazard Protection with the Premium Tire Installation Package | Road Hazard Warranty on most tires bought at Costco | Optional Tire Protection Certificates |
| When road hazard cover ends | At 2/32 inch of usable tread; no time limit printed | 5 years from purchase, while you remain a member | 60 months or 2/32 inch of tread, whichever comes first | 3 years from purchase, or at 3/32 inch of tread |
| What a ruined tire gets you | Free replacement in year 1 or the first 25% of tread, then a pro-rata credit; installation extra | A new tire, charged for the tread you used, plus package charges | Credit of remaining usable tread times the price you paid | Refund or credit of the price paid plus sales tax |

Two differences stand out. Walmart’s road hazard cover has no time limit, only the tread. And Walmart figures its pro-rata credit on the current price of a comparable tire, where Costco uses “the price you paid for the tire net of all discounts received” and Discount Tire refunds “the original purchase price and sales tax.”

## Where Walmart’s documents disagree, and what they leave out

Walmart’s tire terms are spread across a warranty article last updated almost three years before we read it, a service FAQ, and several Walmart+ pages. We recorded 8 places where they pull apart:

- **Rotation interval.** The warranties require every 6,000-7,500 miles; the FAQ says 6,000 to 8,000, and a general FAQ cites manuals at 5,000 to 8,000.
- **How road hazard credit is prorated.** The contract uses “tread depth remaining”; the FAQ says “based on mileage driven.”
- **The mileage formula.** Its wording, “multiplying the percent of mileage received,” reads backwards against the usual pro-rata rule, and Walmart’s example cannot tell the two apart.
- **New York.** Four documents say road hazard cover is not available in New York, with no date; the Walmart+ help article says members lost it there after February 28, 2025 and earlier purchases are honoured; the Walmart+ FAQs do not mention New York.
- **“Free” road hazard cover.** The FAQs call it “complimentary”; the help article and perks page tie it to the Value package at the Basic price.
- **“Free” installation.** The FAQ promises free installation, meaning mounting and inflation; the Walmart+ pages talk of buying an installation package.
- **Proof for a member’s warranty.** The contract needs the invoice for “your purchase of this Optional Road Hazard Warranty”; a member’s warranty is not purchased, and the Terms offer a QR-scan receipt instead.
- **Drafting.** The road hazard contract’s length clause speaks of “tires found to be defective,” it names “Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.” and then “Walmart Inc.,” and the defect warranty lists “Racing” twice.

No Walmart page we read gives the price or contents of the Basic and Value packages, the price of the road hazard warranty without Walmart+, the lifetime balance terms, the length of the road hazard refund right, or the proof of rotation Walmart accepts.

## Before you buy tires at Walmart

Read the warranty before you pay. Under the FTC’s pre-sale availability rule, 16 CFR 702.3, the seller of a consumer product with a written warranty “shall make a text of the warranty readily available for examination by the prospective buyer.” And because Walmart gives a written warranty on these tires, 15 U.S.C. 2308(a) applies: “No supplier may disclaim or modify (except as provided in subsection (b)) any implied warranty to a consumer” when it makes one. Walmart’s terms do not try to; they limit only incidental and consequential damages.

Register the tires. The federal rule, [49 CFR 574.8](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-V/part-574/section-574.8), gives an independent tire dealer three options: hand you a paper form recording “The entire tire identification number” and the dealer’s name, or register the tires with the maker itself, on paper or electronically, “at no charge to the tire purchaser and within 30 days.” A dealer that registers electronically must say so on the invoice. None of the Walmart pages we read mentions registration, so ask which way your center does it; registration is how a tire maker reaches you in a recall.

- **Check the seller on an online order.** Walmart’s warranties cover tires bought from Walmart or Walmart.com and installed at a Walmart Auto Care Center; ask about Marketplace tires.
- **Get the per-tire total for each package** and what the Basic package includes before the work starts, including any TPMS sensors or service packs.
- **Decide on road hazard cover at the counter.** It is sold “at the time of purchase and installation”; Walmart+ members get it through the Value package, except in New York.
- **Make sure the invoice shows the warranted mileage** if the tire has one, and keep the invoice and the installation record together.
- **Rotate by 7,500 miles at the latest,** not the FAQ’s 8,000, and keep each rotation invoice with the odometer reading.
- **Ask how the tires are registered** with the maker, and keep any form you are given.
- **Do not drive below 2/32 inch;** every Walmart tire promise, and the free Walmart+ repair, ends there.

## Common questions

### How much does Walmart charge to install tires?

Walmart’s FAQ says installation is free with Walmart tires, meaning “mounting & tire inflation,” plus a free TPMS re-learn and 50-mile re-torque; balancing, service packs and road hazard cover cost extra.
