# Loan Cost

> Put two loan quotes side by side — the amount financed, each APR and term — and see what each really costs: the total paid, the total interest, and the trade the longer term makes when the lighter payment costs more in the end.

## What this tool does

Enter the amount financed and two quotes — each one's APR and term — and the page computes what each loan really costs: the monthly payment, the total paid over the term, and the total interest. When the loan with the lighter payment costs more in total, the panel says exactly that, in dollars, because that trade is the whole reason finance desks talk in monthlies.

## Why this exists on a site that refuses payment talk

A payment can be moved without moving the price: stretch the term and the monthly falls while the total rises. Our out-the-door calculator refuses to compute a payment for exactly that reason — this page is the other half of the argument, built to show what the payment number conceals rather than to negotiate with it.

## Limits worth knowing

Arithmetic on your quotes, nothing more: no rates are prefilled, because a printed rate goes stale and the rate you are actually offered depends on your file. Standard amortisation is assumed — fees financed into the loan belong in the amount, and a longer term also means owing more than the car is worth for longer, which the negative-equity coverage explains.
