# GoodCar Review: Is It Legit, What It Costs and How to Cancel

## The short version

- GoodCar is a real, federally listed business. On 3 October 2026 the Department of Justice’s NMVTIS register listed GoodCar.com among approved data providers that sell to the public. It is run by InfoPay, Inc. of Boston, which holds an A rating from the BBB and has been accredited since 2008.
- What GoodCar sells is a subscription, not a single report. The sign-up checkout we read charged $1.95 for 7 days of unlimited searches, then a recurring $24.95 a month. GoodCar’s own FAQ says $29.95 a month, and four of its pages print the trial at $2.95.
- On that checkout the renewal terms sit in a paragraph under the “Process Payment” button, beside a required tick-box. The order summary above the card form shows only “Today’s Total: $1.95”.
- To stop the charges you must cancel before the renewal date. GoodCar’s terms say it will not refund the unused part of a month; its FAQ says refunds are “not guaranteed” but reviewed case by case.
- The reviews split along one line. The BBB file shows 211 complaints in 3 years and a 1.4 average from 90 reviews. Trustpilot shows 4.1 from 5,371 reviews, but of the 20 newest, the 13 GoodCar invited were all 4 or 5 stars and the 7 unprompted ones were all 1 or 2 stars.
- Carfax sells one-time packages, from $49.99 for one report, with nothing to cancel. GoodCar’s comparison boxes print Carfax at $44.95 or $44.99, below the price on Carfax’s own order page.

Is GoodCar legit? It is a genuine, federally approved vehicle-history provider, and it bills by subscription. That one fact explains almost every complaint about it. Everything below was read on 3 October 2026 from the documents that print it: GoodCar’s [FAQ](https://goodcar.com/faq), its [Terms of Service](https://goodcar.com/terms-of-service) (effective 24 February 2026), the checkout its “Sign Up” button opens, its [GoodCar vs Carfax page](https://goodcar.com/how-we-compare) and seven other GoodCar pages; the [NMVTIS provider register](https://vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov/nmvtis_vehiclehistory); GoodCar’s BBB, Trustpilot and app-store pages; and Carfax’s own pages. We have no commercial relationship with GoodCar or Carfax. Where GoodCar’s own pages disagree, we print both versions.

**Figure: GoodCar's prices, as its own pages print them, against Carfax's**

A two-column table of the prices GoodCar's own pages printed on 3 October 2026, set against Carfax's order page. The 7-day trial is $1.95 on four GoodCar pages and $2.95 on four others. GoodCar's FAQ says the trial is followed by $29.95 a month; the sign-up checkout printed $24.95 a month from 10/10/2026, in a paragraph under the pay button, while its order summary showed only $1.95. The other seven price pages print no monthly fee. GoodCar's comparison boxes price Carfax at $44.95 on five pages and $44.99 on three; Carfax's own order page listed 1 report at $49.99, 2 for $69.99 and 4 for $119.99, paid once. GoodCar's terms say it will not refund the unused portion of a month.

GoodCar's homepage, FAQ, Terms of Service, six product pages and sign-up checkout, and Carfax's order page, all read 3 October 2026. The search-led GoodCar checkout was not read and may differ.

## Is GoodCar legit? Start with the federal register

The cleanest test of a vehicle-history seller is one the seller cannot write for itself. The Department of Justice keeps a public list of businesses approved to sell reports drawn from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), the federal title database. On 3 October 2026 the register listed GoodCar.com in its section headed “Approved NMVTIS Data Provider’s Links for both Commercial & Public Customers”, one of 12 primary entries there. Under GoodCar it adds that the same approved provider owns other report sites: InfoTracer, Recordsfinder.com and StateRecords.org. This site’s own record of the register, taken on 31 August 2026, also lists GoodCar as consumer-facing, so the listing is not new.

GoodCar’s footer says it in its own words: “InfoPay, Inc. (dba GoodCar) is an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider.” InfoPay is the legal business, GoodCar is a trading name, and the Terms of Service are InfoPay’s. GoodCar’s about page says its team has been “developing and delivering quality data products since 2007”. The BBB file records a business start in 2003, incorporation in 2007 and accreditation since 30 April 2008.

So “legit” is answered in the narrow sense: the company exists, has a long public record and is federally approved to sell NMVTIS data to the public. The listing says nothing about how a provider bills, or about the other records a report adds, and the register says providers are “listed in alphabetical order with no preference indicated of one provider over another.” A listing is not an endorsement. For what the federal record holds and what it leaves out, see [our guide to the NMVTIS report](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/nmvtis-report/).

## How much GoodCar costs per month, page by page

GoodCar’s FAQ gives the plainest answer: “GoodCar offers a 7-day trial for $1.95, followed by $29.95 per month for unlimited reports until canceled.” GoodCar’s other pages do not all agree with it, or with each other. We read eight GoodCar pages that print a trial price, plus the checkout. Here is every figure they showed on 3 October 2026.

**Prices printed on GoodCar’s own pages, read 3 October 2026. “Carfax shown at” is GoodCar’s figure for Carfax, not Carfax’s.**

| GoodCar page | Trial price | Monthly fee printed | Carfax shown at |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Homepage | $1.95 (“7-Day Unlimited Lookups”) | none | $44.99 |
| FAQ | $1.95 (“7-day trial”) | $29.95 per month | none |
| Vehicle History Reports | $1.95 | none | $44.95 in the box, $44.99 in its FAQ |
| License Plate Lookup | $1.95 | none | $44.95 |
| How We Compare (GoodCar vs Carfax) | $2.95 | none | $44.95 |
| VIN Check | $2.95 | none | $44.95 |
| Car Title Check | $2.95 | none | $44.95 |
| Vehicle Accident Check | $2.95 | none | $44.99 |
| Sign-up checkout | $1.95 (“1-Week Unlimited Reports”) | $24.95, in the consent paragraph | none |

Three things stand out. The trial is $1.95 on 4 pages and $2.95 on 4 others, a $1.00 difference neither explains. Only 1 of the 8 marketing pages, the FAQ, prints any monthly fee; the price boxes beside GoodCar’s search forms show the trial and nothing about what follows it. And the one monthly fee in the purchase flow we read, on the checkout, was $24.95, which is $5.00 less than the FAQ (our arithmetic). Apple’s App Store listing matches the checkout: it lists an in-app purchase called “Unlimited Access” at $24.95, and “Unlimited Access Reactivation” at $19.95, without saying what period each covers. Google Play shows in-app purchases from $9.95 to $24.99 per item.

The $29.95 figure is not just an old FAQ line: in BBB replies GoodCar describes refunding $29.95 renewals. We did not run a VIN or plate search, so we did not see the checkout a search leads to; it may print a different figure from the sign-up checkout. GoodCar’s terms reserve “the right to modify prices” at any time. The figure that binds you is the one in the consent paragraph on the checkout in front of you, not one on a page you read earlier, including this one.

GoodCar’s terms also mention one-time purchases, but none of the GoodCar pages we read, the checkout included, printed a single-report price for GoodCar itself.

## The checkout you actually agree to

GoodCar’s robots.txt asks automated tools to stay out of its checkout, so we read it once, by hand, in a browser, opened from the “Sign Up” button on GoodCar’s homepage. We chose “Credit Card” so the card form would appear, and filled in nothing.

The top of the form is an order summary: “1-Week Unlimited Reports”, then “Today’s Total: $1.95”, with a note that sales tax may apply. Payment can be Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or a card. The summary does not mention a monthly fee.

The monthly fee appears further down. In the layout we saw, the “Process Payment” button came first. Below it sat an empty, required tick-box and, beside it, a consent paragraph, part of it in bold. The bold part reads: “I agree to the $1.95 (plus sales tax, if applicable) charge, which includes a 7-Day Unlimited Access to our searches with expiration on 10/10/2026. My payment card credentials will be stored, and if I do not cancel before the expiration date, a recurring monthly subscription fee of $24.95 (plus sales tax, if applicable) will be charged to my card on 10/10/2026 and each month thereafter unless and until I cancel.”

The date printed, 10/10/2026, was exactly 7 days after the day we read the page, so the week appears to count from the day you pay. The same paragraph says monthly fees are “billed in advance, non-refundable”, that cancellation “must be processed before the next billing cycle”, and that the charge will show on a statement as “GOODCAR.COM or GOODCAR”.

**The order summary says $1.95. The renewal is in the paragraph under the button.** On the checkout we read, the only place the $24.95 monthly fee appeared was the consent text beside the required tick-box, below “Process Payment”. If you pay $1.95 on GoodCar, you have started a subscription with a renewal date 7 days away. Write that date down before you close the page.

To be fair to GoodCar, the terms are on the page, the box is not pre-ticked, and the renewal sentence is in bold. GoodCar’s replies to BBB complaints make that point in nearly identical words each time: the customer “agreed to our billing policy, which indicated after the seven-day trial is completed, additional billing would follow on a monthly basis.” Whether that is clear enough is the argument running through GoodCar’s reviews.

## What a GoodCar report includes, in GoodCar’s words

GoodCar’s FAQ says its reports “include complete accident history, title information, and odometer readings”, and “also feature NHTSA recalls and theft reports, market values, detailed specs, and much more.” Its vehicle-history page gives a longer list introduced with “when available”, from title brands, salvage, total loss, flood, fire and hail damage to liens, former rental or police use, trade-in and retail values and factory specifications. The sample-report page adds NHTSA crash-test ratings and awards, and says “subscribers” get value information including “auction values (updated weekly)”.

On sources, the FAQ names NMVTIS and “sources like BlackBook, JD Power, and other trusted sources”, and says data “is updated in real time when a user requests a report”, though “some data depends on the frequency of third-party reporting services.”

Two parts of GoodCar’s own wording carry the weight. “When available” means the list is a menu of what a report can contain, not what yours will contain. And section 17 of the terms says that because GoodCar does “not generate original reports”, it does “not guarantee that the information on our Services will be accurate and complete”, and “may not have access to some information that may be available to other parties.” Its data-practices page agrees: “We do not create, control, or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the data presented.”

That sits awkwardly beside GoodCar’s VIN-check page, which answers its own accuracy question with “Yes, our VIN Lookup service is highly accurate and reliable.” Both are GoodCar’s words; the one that governs a dispute is in the terms. Read a GoodCar report as a list of records that were found, not a certificate that nothing else happened. An empty accident section means no accident record reached GoodCar’s sources, not that the car was never hit, which is why an [accident check by VIN](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/vin-accident-check/) and a [pre-purchase inspection](https://baronauto1.com/buying-guides/used-car-pre-purchase-inspection/) still matter. One more line in the terms explains a common surprise: “any unpaid, preliminary results may differ from paid member searches or reports.” The teaser before you pay is not a preview of the finished report.

**Figure: Annotated photograph**

Three numbered callouts over the photograph mark the phone and the dashboard screen, with what GoodCar's sign-up checkout and FAQ printed about its trial and monthly fee.

GoodCar's sign-up checkout, read on 3 October 2026, charged $1.95 for a 7-day trial and printed a recurring $24.95 a month from 10/10/2026 (callout 1), in a paragraph below the Process Payment button beside a required tick-box (callout 2). GoodCar's FAQ gives the monthly fee as $29.95 (callout 3). The photograph is illustrative; the steering-wheel badge has been softened.

## How to cancel a GoodCar subscription

GoodCar describes cancelling in at least four ways, depending on the page. None is wrong, but they name different buttons, so it helps to know them all.

- **Terms of Service, section 8:** use the “CANCEL” option on the Account Details page of your account, call GoodCar’s support line, or email support@goodcar.com. The terms say customer service is open 24/7.
- **The FAQ:** “Log into your account and head to My Account. Submit a cancellation request in the form and cancel at any time.”
- **The vehicle-history and VIN-check pages:** click the “Disable” button on your “My Account” page, or email or call customer care.
- **The checkout’s consent paragraph:** the cancellation link in your receipt email, “Billing and cancellation questions” on the contact form of GoodCar’s [support page](https://goodcar.com/support), a phone call, or an email to support@goodcar.com.

If you subscribed inside the iPhone app, the route is different. In a reply to an App Store review, GoodCar told the reviewer to search for GOODCAR under “Subscriptions” in the iPhone’s settings and select “CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION”. A subscription bought through Apple is billed by Apple, so that is where it is stopped.

Three sentences in the terms decide what happens next. “You are solely responsible for properly canceling your account.” “Your cancellation will take effect immediately.” And fees are “BILLED MONTHLY IN ADVANCE”, so you “MUST CANCEL BEFORE THE AUTOMATIC RENEWAL DATE” to avoid the next charge. Together they mean that cancelling during the trial ends your access straight away, and cancelling the day after a renewal does not, by right, return that month’s fee.

The terms say renewals come “EVERY THIRTY (30) DAYS” after the first billing date, and that GoodCar will email a renewal reminder and notice of any rate change “AT LEAST FIVE (5) DAYS BEFORE THE AUTOMATIC RENEWAL DATE.” Do not rely on that email for the first renewal: the clause begins with “THEREAFTER”, and on a 7-day trial the first renewal comes quickly. Cancelling the subscription does not delete the account; the terms say GoodCar may delete one after 12 months without a log-in, so ask for removal of your account and stored card when you cancel if you want it.

## What GoodCar says about refunds

GoodCar has no refund-policy page. We looked at the obvious addresses, and /refund-policy, /refunds, /cancel, /cancellation and /pricing all returned “page not found” on 3 October 2026. The refund wording is spread across four places that do not quite agree.

- **Terms of Service, section 8:** “WE WILL NOT REFUND THE UNUSED PORTION OF YOUR MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION.”
- **The checkout:** monthly fees are “billed in advance, non-refundable”.
- **The FAQ**, under “I didn’t mean to subscribe, but can I get a refund?”: “While refunds are not guaranteed, every request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.”
- **The vehicle-history and VIN-check FAQs:** if GoodCar’s search experts cannot find your information, “we’ll refund your purchase!”

Read in order, that is a firm rule with two exceptions: a discretionary review for people who did not mean to subscribe, and a refund when GoodCar cannot find the information you came for.

GoodCar’s own public replies show how the discretion is used. On the first page of its BBB customer reviews on 3 October 2026, all 10 reviews were 1-star and GoodCar had answered each one; 7 of the 10 replies say a refund was issued or processed. Two describe refunding a $29.95 renewal “as a courtesy”, one because the customer “canceled on the same day the account renewed”, another because there was no activity after the renewal. Those are GoodCar’s descriptions of its own decisions, not a published rule, and we do not treat any single customer’s account as proven. What the terms add is a sequence: section 9 says that if you have a billing problem, “you agree to contact our Customer Support team prior to contacting your bank.”

For comparison, Carfax’s refund help article says a representative “will review your request and determine eligibility”, and an authorised refund can take 3-5 business days to post. Neither company prints a right to a refund. The difference is what you are asking about: a one-time package at Carfax, a renewal you did not stop in time at GoodCar.

## GoodCar reviews: BBB, Trustpilot and the app stores

GoodCar’s reputation looks completely different depending on where you check. These are each platform’s public figures on 3 October 2026: counts and averages, not verified findings.

**GoodCar’s public reputation figures, read 3 October 2026**

| Platform | What it shows | What to know before reading it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| BBB rating | A; BBB Accredited since 30 April 2008 | BBB’s reasons for the rating list “211 complaint(s) filed against business” |
| BBB complaints | 211 in the last 3 years; 94 closed in the last 12 months; 137 answered, 74 resolved | One BBB file covers InfoPay’s other names too, so not every complaint is about GoodCar |
| BBB customer reviews | 1.4 out of 5, average of 90 reviews | Reviews and complaints are separate counts on BBB |
| Trustpilot | TrustScore 4.1 (“Great”) from 5,371 reviews; 1,742 in the last 12 months; 75% five-star, 15% one-star | Trustpilot says the company invites customers to review; profile claimed February 2023 |
| Apple App Store | 4.5 from 1,049 ratings | Up from 941 ratings when this site recorded it on 2 September 2026 |
| Google Play | 4.2 from 344 reviews; 10K+ downloads | A smaller sample than iPhone or Trustpilot |

**The BBB file.** The A rating and the complaint count are not a contradiction: BBB’s own note says the nature of complaints and a company’s responses “are often more important than the number of complaints”, and that profiles generally cover three years. BBB sorts the 211 complaints as Product Issues 62, Service or Repair Issues 53, Billing Issues 40, Sales and Advertising Issues 26, Customer Service Issues 15, Order Issues 13 and Delivery Issues 2; billing and sales-and-advertising together come to 66 (our arithmetic). The newest BBB review opened with “Be careful with the $1.95 trial”: one customer’s warning, not a finding, but the theme of the page. Read the counts with the shared file in mind: BBB lists InfoPay, Inc., propertychecker.com, Infotracer.com, Sentinex, EntityCheck and IDStrong as alternate names on the same profile, so the complaint count is InfoPay’s across several products.

**Trustpilot.** A 4.1 from more than five thousand reviews looks like the opposite of the BBB picture, and the reason is visible on Trustpilot itself. It labels GoodCar as a company that “invites their customers to review”, and marks each review as invited (“Verified”) or “Unprompted”. We recorded the star rating and label of the 20 most recent reviews: 13 were invited and every one gave 4 or 5 stars; 7 were unprompted and every one gave 1 or 2 stars. Trustpilot’s own AI-written summary praises GoodCar’s support staff, then notes “unexpected charges and unwanted recurring subscription renewals following their initial purchase.” Trustpilot also shows GoodCar replied to 99% of negative reviews (403 of 406).

For contrast, Carfax’s Trustpilot profile scores 1.4 from 734 reviews. It is unclaimed, Trustpilot shows no recent invitations, and all 20 of its newest reviews were unprompted, 19 of them one-star. One score mixes invited and unprompted reviews, the other is unprompted only, so comparing GoodCar’s 4.1 with Carfax’s 1.4 says more about how reviews were collected than about either report.

**The app stores.** App ratings (4.5 on the iPhone, 4.2 on Google Play) mostly reflect how the app works on a phone, not how billing went.

## GoodCar vs Carfax: what each one actually sells

GoodCar’s comparison page ticks all six of its rows for both companies: odometer, major accidents, total loss, junk and salvage, title brands and destination market. Underneath, it prints “$2.95 UNLIMITED VIN and Plate Lookups (7-Day Trial)” for GoodCar against “$44.95 Single report” for Carfax. It names no date and no source for the Carfax price, and has no row for service records. Here is the same comparison built from each company’s own pages and the federal register, read on 3 October 2026.

**GoodCar and Carfax from their own documents and the NMVTIS register, read 3 October 2026**

| | GoodCar | Carfax |
| --- | --- | --- |
| How you pay | $1.95 for 7 days, then a recurring monthly fee ($24.95 on the sign-up checkout; $29.95 in the FAQ) until cancelled | One-time packages: 1 report $49.99, 2 for $69.99, 4 for $119.99 ($30.00 a report, as Carfax prints it) |
| Anything to cancel? | Yes, before the renewal date | No; the order page did not use the words subscription, unlimited or per month |
| NMVTIS register | Listed for “both Commercial & Public Customers” | Listed for commercial customers “in California only”; the register says consumers cannot receive NMVTIS reports from Carfax |
| What the seller says the report checks | Accident history, title information, odometer, recalls, theft, market values, specs; a longer list “when available” | 24 items under “Every CARFAX Vehicle History Report Checks for”, including structural damage, oil changes, tire rotations, previous owners, odometer rollback and flood or lemon titles |
| Sources, as each describes them | NMVTIS, BlackBook, JD Power and “other trusted sources” | “Billions of records from more than 151,000 domestic and international sources”; vehicles made since 1981 |
| Refunds | Terms: no refund of a month’s unused portion. FAQ: not guaranteed, case by case | A representative reviews the request and determines eligibility |
| Price GoodCar prints for Carfax | $44.95 on 5 GoodCar pages, $44.99 on 3. Carfax’s own order page: $49.99 | |

**The Carfax price on GoodCar’s pages is not Carfax’s price.** Carfax’s [order page](https://secure.carfax.com/creditCard.cfx?previousPage=vhrl) listed one report at $49.99 on 3 October 2026, the same figure this site recorded from Carfax’s checkout on 26 August 2026. GoodCar’s $44.95 is $5.04 under that, and its $44.99 is $5.00 under (our arithmetic). This site’s records show a third-party article quoting $44.99 for Carfax in December 2025, so GoodCar’s figure may be an older price never updated. Either way, it is a competitor describing a competitor, and it understates the gap GoodCar is trying to show. For Carfax’s price history, see [how much a Carfax report costs](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/how-much-does-carfax-cost/).

**Do not read the two columns as the same data.** Ticking the same six rows for both invites the conclusion that the reports are equivalent. Nothing we read supports that, and the federal register points the other way on one source: GoodCar sells NMVTIS data to the public, while consumers “CANNOT receive NMVTIS Vehicle History Reports from Carfax”. That does not mean Carfax lacks title information; it lists flood and lemon titles among its checks, from its own sources. Carfax’s list also stresses service records (oil changes, tire rotations), which GoodCar’s comparison leaves out, though GoodCar’s homepage lists “service history” among what its records can show. They are two different databases, and each will find records the other misses. Our [guide to Carfax alternatives](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/carfax-alternatives/) explains how to check any provider’s sources before you pay.

## When GoodCar costs less than Carfax, and when it does not

The answer depends on how quickly you cancel. The table is our arithmetic, using the $1.95 trial and the two monthly fees GoodCar printed, before sales tax, against Carfax’s packages. It assumes one renewal a month after the trial, as the checkout words it.

**Our arithmetic: what GoodCar costs by renewals kept, against Carfax’s order-page prices (read 3 October 2026)**

| Renewals before you cancel | Total at $24.95 a month (checkout) | Total at $29.95 a month (FAQ) | Carfax for comparison |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| None (cancelled inside the 7 days) | $1.95 | $1.95 | 1 report: $49.99 |
| 1 | $26.90 | $31.90 | 1 report: $49.99 |
| 2 | $51.85 | $61.85 | 2 reports: $69.99 |
| 3 | $76.80 | $91.80 | 4 reports: $119.99 |
| 6 | $151.65 | $181.65 | 4 reports: $119.99 |
| 12 | $301.35 | $361.35 | 4 reports: $119.99 |

Cancel inside the trial and GoodCar costs $1.95, which is $48.04 less than one Carfax report, for as many searches as you can run in a week. That is the case GoodCar’s comparison boxes are built around, and for a disciplined buyer it is real.

Miss the first renewal and you are still under one Carfax report, at $26.90 or $31.90. Miss the second and you have paid more than one Carfax report on either fee: $51.85 or $61.85 against $49.99. After three renewals you have passed Carfax’s 2-report package, and after four or five, depending on the fee, its 4-report package. A subscription forgotten for a year comes to $301.35 at $24.95 a month (all our arithmetic). The trial is cheap; forgetting it is not. If you would rather have nothing to cancel, see [buying a one-time report instead of a subscription](https://baronauto1.com/vehicle-history/one-time-carfax-report/).

## The terms that matter if something goes wrong

These clauses from GoodCar’s Terms of Service set the limits of what you can do if a report misses something or a charge goes wrong.

- **Correction, not compensation.** If information is wrong, GoodCar’s “sole obligation”, once you tell it in writing, “is correction of the Information in question.”
- **A liability cap.** GoodCar’s total liability “WILL IN NO EVENT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100.00).”
- **Arbitration, not court.** Disputes go to “confidential binding arbitration, rather than in court”, after a written notice and 30 days to try to settle, and you waive the right to join a class action.
- **Personal use only.** The licence is for “personal, individual, non-commercial, and non-automated use only”, and you must be 18 or older. InfoPay says it is not a consumer reporting agency, and the terms prohibit using results to judge anyone’s eligibility for credit, insurance, employment or housing.
- **Promotional credits die with the account.** Credits added at account creation have “no cash value”, are “non-refundable”, and are forfeited on cancellation.

None of this is unusual for an online data service, but it is a reason to treat any report as one input, with an inspection of the car as another.

## Who GoodCar’s subscription suits, and who should pay once

We do not recommend any paid provider, GoodCar included, but its shape fits some buyers better than others. It fits someone who will run many searches in a short window and cancel on time, such as a buyer comparing a dozen private-sale listings in a weekend who sets a reminder for the renewal date before paying. For that person the trial is the whole cost. It fits poorly for someone checking one car, someone likely to forget, or someone who wants a single document to keep or show a seller. If what you mainly want is the federal title record, the register lists several providers that sell it to the public. The same habits protect you on any site that turns a cheap trial into a monthly plan.

- **Read the paragraph beside the tick-box,** not the order summary. On GoodCar’s sign-up checkout, the monthly fee and renewal date were only there.
- **Write down the renewal date** the checkout prints. On the page we read it was 7 days after payment.
- **Find the cancel control as soon as you log in**: “CANCEL” on Account Details or “Disable” on My Account. If you subscribed in the iPhone app, cancel in the iPhone’s Subscriptions settings.
- **Cancel the day you have what you need.** The terms make cancellation immediate and rule out refunding the unused part of a month.
- **Keep the confirmation,** and check your next statement for GOODCAR.COM or GOODCAR.
- **If an unexpected charge lands,** write to GoodCar first (its terms ask for that before you go to your bank) and keep the reply.
- **Treat an empty section as unknown, not clean,** and pair any report with an inspection of the car.

## Common questions

### Is GoodCar legit?

Yes, in the sense that it is a real business on the Department of Justice’s NMVTIS approved-provider register, run by InfoPay, Inc. of Boston, with an A rating from the BBB and accreditation since 2008. The complaints about it are mostly about billing: a $1.95 trial that renews into a monthly subscription unless you cancel.

### How much does GoodCar cost per month?

The sign-up checkout we read on 3 October 2026 charged $1.95 for 7 days, then printed a recurring fee of $24.95 a month. GoodCar’s FAQ says $29.95 a month, and the iPhone app lists “Unlimited Access” at $24.95. The consent paragraph on your own checkout is the figure you agree to.

### How do I cancel my GoodCar subscription?

Log in and use the cancel control on your account page (“CANCEL” on Account Details in the terms, “Disable” on My Account on other GoodCar pages), or email support@goodcar.com, or choose “Billing and cancellation questions” on GoodCar’s contact form, or phone the number on its support page. If you subscribed in the iPhone app, cancel in your iPhone’s Subscriptions settings. Do it before the renewal date and keep the confirmation.

### Will GoodCar refund me?

Not as a right. The terms say GoodCar will not refund the unused portion of a month, and the checkout calls monthly fees non-refundable. The FAQ says refunds are “not guaranteed” but reviewed case by case, and in its public BBB replies GoodCar describes refunding some renewals as a courtesy, for example after a same-day cancellation. Ask in writing, promptly.

### GoodCar vs Carfax: what is the difference?

They sell different things. GoodCar sells a week of unlimited searches that becomes a monthly plan, and is approved to sell NMVTIS title data to the public. Carfax sells one-time packages from $49.99, and the register says consumers cannot get NMVTIS reports from Carfax. Nothing on either company’s pages shows the two reports draw on the same records.

### Why are GoodCar’s Trustpilot reviews good and its BBB reviews bad?

The samples are collected differently. GoodCar invites customers to review on Trustpilot, and among the 20 newest reviews on 3 October 2026, the 13 invited ones were all 4 or 5 stars while the 7 unprompted ones were all 1 or 2 stars. BBB reviews and complaints come from people who sought BBB out, often after a problem, and the BBB file also covers InfoPay’s other websites.
